I purchased these 1460s on eBay because I haven’t seen this dark oxblood in ages. They are Made in England. They are so comfortable that I messaged the seller after I’d had them a while asking if they had a clue as just how old the boots are. He said that he believes they are 70s to 80s because the tag is printed, not woven.
In looking at posts about dating boots, there is conflicting info relating to the printed vs woven tag, shape of the logo on the sole, single vs double yellow stitching and on and on. Most of the photos are from the listing and the last is comparing how they looked when they arrived vs after polishing them.
I’m hoping someone can help figure when they are from just to satisfy my curiosity.
A couple coats in and they’re starting to come to life. I still need to give them some more love but they’re getting there. I need to bring my old military spit shine back into practice.

My kid went to Florida State University and I got this vintage polo to be supportive of him. An old friend who I ran with 35 years ago pointed out that there is a rather infamous crew called FSU out of Boston and I probably shouldn’t wear this shirt with my Docs and all lest I have to potentially throw down. Everything I could find about FSU (the crew, not the school) shows them not being active in Florida.
My question is would this start some shit as claiming membership in a crew I’ve never been a member of? I told him I’d make a point to not wear it to shows. The main crew down here in SoFlo is ColorBlind Crew and I’m not a member of them either. In fact, I haven’t been in a crew since my days in the DC Boot Boys 35 years ago. I’ve always just repped working class pride and great music. Now that I’m an old man with cancer, I don’t feel the need to try to start shit these days.
I’m very curious as to when Dr. Martens stopped manufacturing the true dark oxblood. The boots in the right pic are ones I’d ordered from England in 1991. Oxblood was not available at all. They were cherry reds and I would polish them with black to darken them up. Sadly, my pittie chewed them up a while back when she was a puppy. The 3 eyes in the bottom left are also MiE but newer (about 20 years old) and got the black polish treatment.
I just found the top left ones on eBay and they are Made in England and the nice dark oxblood. I’m curious how old they likely are. They haven’t arrived yet but I’m excited. I always wanted the dark oxblood rather than cherry reds. There were a couple guys in the crew I ran with in the early 90s that had the dark oxbloods and they were considered old then.
Input? I can’t find much online as people are calling cherry red oxblood even tho they aren’t.
