Docs for Server (12hrs/day)

Hi guys, looking for a pair of Docs for a server, mostly running and standing all day long for 12hrs, I'd prefer the oxford style and not too heavy, yes that's important!

Currently I'm kinda into 1461 Mono oxford shoes, please let me know if you guys have any recommendation, I'd be appreciated!

Simply gems 😍

One of the boldest and most stunning Doc models ever created (among so many wonderful ones).
I feel like wearing them is like wearing a precious piece of jewelry. I love them!

How old?

I was not expecting to buy another pair of docs today as I currently have 4 pairs, but can’t leave behind a made in England pair in my size and such good condition. Anyone got a good idea how old they might be? Based on some info online I figured late 90s to early 2000s?

First pair of Docs help

Im looking to get my first pair of Doc Marten Boots and I've heard that the 1460s are the most popular but are also so expensive and a pain to break in, i'm looking for some similar to the Combs Casual Boot (not the Tech) but i want something that is pretty comfy out of the box and i want them to be suitable for all conditions everyday wear and that last a long time, my budget is around $180. I don't want anything shiny like the 1460s as i have heard they are more prone to cracking.

In love with my Bethan 🖤

I've always worn 7 but this one's in size 8 and i guess it's not too bad after all.

I just had to wear two pairs of thick socks and silicone heel protector 😂

Share me your outfits with this shoes please! I need inspo~

Charms

So what do we think about hanging these charms on our boots? 🤔

Dr. Martens Japan identified my 30-year-old boots as model 7712 — but the mystery continues

This is my third post about this pair.

During a holiday break two months ago, I applied leather cream to this pair for the first time since I bought them 30 years ago.

Despite their age, they were still in remarkably good condition, which made me want to learn more about them. So I dug out the old magazine that I introduced in my second post.

After that, I searched extensively online, but I couldn’t find any information about this particular pair.

So I decided to contact Dr. Martens Japan directly.

I had heard that the company operating Dr. Martens in Japan had changed over the past 30 years, so to be honest, I contacted them without expecting too much.

But Dr. Martens Japan actually replied with information about this pair!

To summarize their response:

• This was a product released in the 1990s called the “7712 10 EYELET 2 BUCKLE BOOT.”
• It was also sold for a period of time through retailers in Japan.
• Because so many years have passed since it was released, very few records from that time still remain, and they apologized for not being able to provide more detailed information.
• They also kindly said that the boots were in very good condition and that they could tell how much I had cared for them, and they hoped I would continue enjoying Dr. Martens for many years to come.

Through my previous two posts, I received a huge amount of information from everyone here.

Thanks to your comments, I learned for the first time about models called the Caden and the Samuel. I also heard from people about similar boots being purchased in different parts of the world.

The information was fascinating, but I still couldn’t find a definitive clue about my particular pair.

Then, through the official response, I finally learned the model number: “7712.”

However, as mentioned in their response, Dr. Martens Japan no longer has much detailed information from that period.

So now, what I really want to find are clues about the “7712” model itself.

Does “7712” specifically refer to this configuration — a 10-eyelet boot with two buckle straps?

Or did a plain version of the “7712,” without the two buckle straps, also exist?

Old catalogs, advertisements, magazines, memories from when these were sold, or information from anyone who actually owned a pair — even the smallest clue would be greatly appreciated.

I still need your help.

Thank you!

About the photos:

Photo 1 shows the pair as they look today.

Photo 2 is the Dr. Martens Department Store in Covent Garden, London, photographed by me in November 2000.

Photos 3 and 4 show me travelling in Oxford with this same pair in April 2001.

I’ve also shared these four photos and more of the story behind this pair in a YouTube Short and an Instagram Reel linked in my profile. If you’re interested, please feel free to check them out.

Help identifying these boots!

Bought these at a thrift store today, and I’m having some trouble identifying them/ finding any info online about them! Any leads would be appreciated, thanks!

Should I buy a smaller size?

I am size 38 but after trying the maybole dr martens looks to me that the shoes are 1 size bigger. What do you think?

Letting go of Docs?

I have a large DM collection. 20+ Some were impulse buys lol but I love all of them. However, I find my style constantly changing and some I haven’t touched in a while. I’m finding it hard to sell them tho 😭😭😭 like what if I have another style change and I’m like ugh I wish I had those DMs but I sold them lol

I’m also being more intentional with my shoe purchases moving forward as I figure out my personal style. Teaching myself I don’t need instant gratification. DMs are so accessible to me I just buy them when I want to. I’ve had my eyes on some really high end shoes that will cost a pretty penny but because they’re so expensive I can take my time to save and make sure I truly want them.

My husband and daughter both think I should just keep them all just in case lol

Anywho… I’m also wondering how often I should wear them in the meantime to keep them from deteriorating too. Like I don’t just want them sitting in boxes for yrs and then I break them out and they’re not even wearable.

Ok that’s it lol

Basic 1460’s

2nd hand find from eBay
A made in China pair that fits just right on me. I’m liking the shape these have taken. It’s a gamble when buying used let alone new and what batches / origins they’re from. Or how worn they are, it adds to my daily hunt.

Is Dr. Martens discontinuing these, or are they just temporarily out of stock?

Just wondering because I was about to replace an old pair of these that I’ve had for a decade, but I clicked on the page and they were all sold out 🥺

Zippers broken on all my docs

Basicly the title. On all three of my docs the zipper broke (ripped apart from the fabric). Docs won't replace them since they say it's my own fault and that "it seems like i use my shoes for everything" (Yes. You advertise them as being made for that).

Anyway, is this a common problem with the zippers breaking?

New to me, worn paint job

I've just picked up these worn chequerbord Docs. I'd like to make them black all over. Is there a way to remove the (mostly worn off) existing pattern?

I've applied black nugget (last pic), and while that looks tolerable I'm not sure if it will stay that way.
