First Look: Two New Thorn T023 Colorways

A little sneak peek. 👀
The first samples of two new T023 colorways have just arrived.
We’re still waiting for the upgraded bracelet, so the official launch will have to wait a little longer.
Do either of these catch your eye? Or is there another color you’d love to see us make?
If everything goes as planned, we’ll release them together after July 15.

T003 Dial & Size Update – Feedback Wanted

Hi everyone,

First of all, thank you for all the feedback on the T003 project so far. It has been very helpful and has guided our thinking a lot.

We wanted to share a small update and continue gathering your opinions.

Dial text options

We are currently considering two options for the dial text:

Option A: AUTOMATIC
Option B: FRONTIER

We are also considering a more minimal version with no dial text at all, keeping only the THORN branding.

Important note

We previously tested the word “EXPEDITION”, but after reviewing it further, we found there may be trademark considerations within the watch category (Class 14).

To avoid any potential issues going forward, we have decided to move away from that direction.

We are now focusing on FRONTIER and AUTOMATIC as alternatives.

Size feedback

We have received a lot of requests for 36mm and 39mm versions, and we really appreciate that input.

At the moment, the 34mm case is already prepared for production, so we will proceed with this version first.

The 36mm / 39mm versions would require new case tooling, so they are still under evaluation depending on overall demand.

Feedback

We would really appreciate your thoughts:

  • Which do you prefer: AUTOMATIC / FRONTIER / no text at all?
  • Would you personally prefer a future 36mm or 39mm version?
  • Any other suggestions are welcome.

We are trying to refine this watch step by step with community input, so all feedback is appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Would this new THORN T003 colorway catch your attention?

Hi everyone,

We've been working on a new colorway for the THORN T003 and wanted to get some honest feedback before deciding whether to move it into production.

Current specifications:

  • 34mm case
  • 40.7mm lug-to-lug
  • 9.5mm thickness
  • PT5000 automatic movement
  • Quick-release bracelet
  • Tool-free on-the-fly micro-adjust clasp

Nothing has been finalized yet, so now is the best time for us to hear what enthusiasts really think.

We're also considering changing the text on the dial. Previous versions used "EXPLORE ROAD," which has always been somewhat controversial, so this version uses "EXPEDITION" instead.

We'd really like to know what you think.

If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please feel free to share them. We'd love to hear any ideas you have.

Whether your feedback is positive or critical, it's all welcome.

We're genuinely trying to make this watch as good as it can be, so please don't hesitate to tell us what you think.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback!

Some watches grow on you slowly.

No matter how many divers, GMTs or chronographs I look at, I always seem to end up coming back to watches like this.

Simple dial.
Classic proportions.
A bit of vintage charm.

Not sure why.

What's the watch style that keeps pulling you back?

Does military olive work on a Fifty Fathoms-style diver, or is it too much?

Lately I’ve been experimenting with a more military-inspired direction for one of our vintage divers.

Specs are still pretty straightforward:

  • 40mm case
  • NH35
  • vintage-style bezel
  • faux patina lume

But instead of going with the usual black dial + black NATO setup, I tried going full olive:

  • olive green dial
  • olive NATO
  • black bezel to keep the whole thing grounded
  • warm gilt accents

The idea was to make it feel less like a modern dive watch and more like an old military field diver/tool watch.

Personally, I think the black bezel keeps it from drifting too far into “fashion watch” territory, but I’ve stared at this color combo for so long now that I genuinely can’t tell anymore if it actually works or if I’ve just gotten used to it.

Curious what other watch nerds think:

  • Too much green?
  • Does the military vibe actually work on a vintage diver?
  • Would you wear something like this over a traditional black dial version?

Sharing a pretty underrated THORN diver

Outside of the T023, we think the SHY027 deserves a bit more attention too.

Compared to the T023, the SHY027 has a noticeably different feel on wrist. The more compact 39mm case and Mercedes-style handset give it a more vintage, old-school tool watch vibe overall.

We recently took some real-life photos and filmed a small unboxing/wrist-roll video for it, and honestly the gilt details look much better in natural light than we expected. It has a lot more warmth and character in person.

There’s also the sister model, the SHY028, which swaps to snowflake hands and completely changes the personality of the watch.

Curious what people here prefer on a BB58-style diver:

Mercedes hands or snowflake hands?

If anyone here owns either model already, feel free to drop some wrist shots in the comments.

Hey everyone,

From time to time I see people mentioning slow replies or not-so-great after-sales experiences. I’ve seen those comments and have been following up on them.

Today I just wanted to ask directly —
have you run into any issues when buying from our website?
Feel free to say anything openly.

Right now I’m personally handling the emails on our official site.
On weekdays I usually try to clear everything the same day, weekends can be a bit slower.

We’re based in China, so there can be some time zone delays.
That said, it’s something we still need to improve.

If you sent an email and didn’t get a reply, feel free to send it again — sometimes messages do end up in spam.

I don’t post here much, but I do read regularly.
I keep track of the feedback, and anything we can improve, we’ll work on it step by step.

Honestly, I just want to get these small things right, so it feels more comfortable buying from us.

Also, I’m currently trying to find reliable watchmakers in Europe.
If you know anyone good, I’d really appreciate the recommendation.

We already have a partner in the US and it’s been working well.
If we can get something similar in Europe, after-sales would be much easier without needing to send watches back to China.

If you still have an unresolved order issue:

You can email sales@thornwatches.com (with your order number)
or just comment here — I’ll go through them one by one.

(Official website orders only: thornwatches.com)

If you’ve had a bad experience before, feel free to say it directly.
I’ll read everything.

And I really appreciate you helping us make THORN better over time.
