my bf is so goddamn cute when he's sad about something he cares about 🥹

he's 20 and wants to be an er doctor someday and had to leave his er tech job behind since he's going back for premed and he just ranted to me for like 30 minutes straight about how he'll miss helping people like awww

i think it's the fact that he cares so much about people even when it's not as glamorous as hollywood makes it out to be (he told me about a patient he held a vomit bag up for so they could vomit and got a wheelchair so they could go back to a room)

like okay baby i'm sorry about your job ig (even tho they'll probably hire him again and maybe even as a doctor in a few years) but holy shit aww

he's smart and his school boasts that 80% of their premeds get into MD or DO school so i'm most likely the gf of a future er doctor :D

My (20F) bf (20M) has an unhealthy attachment to his job/profession. I had a long talk with him about his wellbeing and he thinks he is fine as he is.

He's an ER tech, researches ER medicine, and is an EMT for a 911 service. He's premed as well and has told me a lot of times he wants to be an ER doctor. His eyes light up when he talks to me about EM. I can genuinely tell he loves it.

However, outside of the ER when he's not on a shift and is not scheduled elsewhere, I can visibly see him down and upset. He kinda drags his feet everywhere, is in bed a lot, and says "I really wanted to have a shift today and help someone."

I'm an aspiring pediatrics PA so I get some of it, but when I'm medical assisting at a peds clinic, it kind of feels like a normal job. Clock in, clock out, celebrate the days you're off.

I care a lot about him and his wellbeing. We had the following convo yesterday:

me: "hi baby! how was your day?"

him: "uh, not great, I made no differences in nobody's life today. I feel so fucking useless. I didn't heal anyone. I just fucking did nothing all day and just did stuff to benefit me and nobody else."

me: "baby, that's not a healthy mindset. I see how being off the clock in the ER affects you and I'm worried, baby. you need to prioritize yourself or you'll get sick. I know how badly you want to be an er doctor, and I want to see you be around for the day you're in the ER as a doctor saving lives. i want you to stay healthy for you and for me. just take care of yourself okay baby? please?"

him: "i'll be okay. don't worry about me. i'll be fine. stop worrying. i don't need to talk to anyone trust me, i just need to get on the clock again sometime anytime."

I might have ended my bf's premed career and I feel so bad.

I know nothing about this process.

My bf is an EMT and premed (or was). Someone was hitting on me in the bar and grabbed me. My bf delivered a strong punch but one of his "acquaintances" who knows he's an EMT recorded the whole thing and submitted it to the NREMT or the EMT board or whatever. A bit ago, my bf got an email that they're pulling his license after a hearing or whatever.

He called and apparently it's not really going on his record since the other guy didn't want to press charges or smth. Only problem is that they did pull his EMT license.

Problem is, prior to getting his EMT license, my bf was literally not able to hold down any healthcare job that isn't the ER or the 911 ambulance. He did well in those jobs. Apparently he "lacks attention to detail and patient comfort" in other units. He got fired from a nursing home and a few hospitals. Apparently he never gave the call bell or whatever to patients in the ICUs and med surg and his reasoning was "well we never did that in the ER"

I talked to him and he said "well I'm pretty much not premed anymore. do the math. i get fired from every role that isn't in an emergency setting. I lost my EMT license so all that's left is non emergency. now I can't hold down a job. no clinical hours. no clinical hours means no medical school."

I feel so bad and want to help.
