How to tell family about dads diagnoses
Hello. Just an hour ago my dad called me and told me the doctors found early signs of Alzheimer’s. I’m the only one he’s told. My dad is 70 and he lives in a completely different country. He moved there for health reasons and better doctors but the only family member he has there is his sister. I don’t know what to do because frankly I’m not that fond of him. Im the closest to him but he’s never been that great to my mom or to my siblings. Ive heard stories and seen how he treats my mom and when I went out to visit him he would play inappropriate videos in his room with the door closed but at full blast and when he asked me to look at his phone to fix something in his settings I saw he had tinder. while hes still married to my mom. I’m 19 and all my siblings are about 20 years older. Ive never told anyone about what i saw on his phone or about the videos because I was scared of what might happen. I know thats stupid but I really didn’t want my mom to be stressed out because she was taking care of my grandma at the time. Now that he told me I don’t know what to do. If I tell my mom about his diagnoses I know she will have us move to another country so that she can take care of him full time. My mom is already stressed about my grandmas heart problems and she is working full time. In my culture putting someone in a facility to have taken care of is not really a thing. It’s always the family taking care of them no matter what. Thats why i’m scared that my mom will have us move to a whole different country while i’m still focusing on school. On the other hand she’s been getting sick and i’m worried it’s getting really serious. None of my siblings are really available as there are either taking care of their own families or traveling often. I dont know what to do. Please give me some advice.
