Can we fix it?
It’s 4:24 AM right now, but something is bothering me, and it’s making me feel so powerless.
Most probably all of you have heard the news about Ramisa, an 8-year-old girl who was rped and klled brutally. This has been bothering me so much that I can’t even sleep.
Because honestly, it’s predictable what will happen next. Two things can happen. Either he gets publicly executed or something similar, or he gets a death sentence. But if the second one happens, most probably he’ll get bailed out a few months or years later. And the issue is, the first option is far less likely to happen.
And we all know we can’t really fix anything at all.
More than 60% of r*pe cases go nowhere because of threats, fear, or embarrassment. In many cases, they go completely unchecked, and even when criminals get caught, they eventually get bail.
And it’s not just this. There are so many crimes like robbery, extortion, child abuse, murder, and so on. The thing is, none of it is decreasing. We all know it just keeps getting worse.
I was a July activist, and two of my friends died. One was from my college, and the other was from my school. We did what we had to do. We brought down a fascist party, but at what cost?
People call it worthless and say all those people died for nothing. And each day, I start feeling like it’s true. Maybe they really did die for nothing.
I look at Nepal, where the government is being run by youths who actually care about people and steadily try to fix problems. Meanwhile, our government mocks the youth and doesn’t even give enough importance to the people representing Gen Z.
And nothing has changed. The previous corrupt ones just got replaced with newer corrupt ones.
But at the end of the day, what can we do about it.
The only thing I see we can do is hold peaceful protests over every topic, every crime after one and another.
And we all know how it goes, it just never works.
