I went up to my uncles cabin to relax for a weekend with arnie and its a terrible environment for him this time. Last time it was perfect my aunt brought her little rescue mutt dog and he wasnt really bothered except around food and “his property”. But this time my uncle brought both of his labs and i had no idea. I let arnie out of the car when i parked here and out come 2 little fun yellow labs looking all happy and any time they got close to arnie he growled and it kept escalating until he fought one of them for about 20 seconds. No damage, and i dont really think any biting, but extremely stressful for me because this is a privilege to be here.
He cannot even be in the same room as them. Example hes sitting with me on the couch all velcro dog like. Then in walks a lab and hes panting and whining and one move closer here come the nasty teeth. He will run off the couch to go “attack “ then come back looking like mr poor baby.
My plan is to continue to let them brawl it out and i hope they kick his ass because he needs to stop trying to be alpha. But at the same hes a Pyr so its in his blood so i don’t think he will ever back down. This is fucked up and i hate hate hate having to keep my eye on him 24/7 because i have seen how ignorant other people are and i want to be polite with my dog
I have adopted a 5 year old pry/coonhound and im worried hes not suitable for my one bedroom apartment. Ive only had him for 1 month and hes clawing all the paint off around the door handles until they open. Hes knocked over the garbage a couple times and chewed the floor mat and a reusable bag when he was really freaking out. Hes acting more resistant to my calls when training and its very frustrating. He came from a single smaller family home and now i feel like i have him trapped in my apartment. Doing cbd now and that helps a tiny bit. But does anyone know if pyrs or pyr mixes are okay with apartment life? And how long did it take any of your separation anxiety pyrs to calm tf down and stay in one spot instead of moving to 2 different spots about 100 times a day while im gone. Im doing every single trick like long walks, frozen chewys, no excitement entrances or departures, etc… he wont eat any treats if im gone he waits til i get back. Any advice or personal stories would be so appreciated. Thank you for reading:)
Just got Arnie 2 weeks ago and I know his whole story. He has severe separation anxiety and will scratch at every door in the apartment until it opens even though he watches me leave through the front door. Im looking for any advice in training methods to make him like it when i leave him in the apartment🤷🏼♂️. Ill resort to cbd and (trazodone for extreme measures) after i realize he is truly going to never grow out of this separation panic/escape artist lifestyle. Hes the best fucking dog but he can not be without me in any fashion and i dont know if that can be trained. 🐶
