What's up with 12 gauge jewelry?

Ive had my midline tongue piercing for about a week and a half now. Piercer did not discuss with me what gauge he will be piercing me with. Only found out what gauge I received when I checked my receipt. ALL cute tongue jewelry is for 14 gauge. When my tongue is fully healed, is it safe for me to wear 14 gauge instead of 12? And do you guys know any online shops that sell cool 12 gauge designs? Ive tried Etsy, Amazon, Ebay and other websites and I swear everything is for 14 gauge only.

Is my crater worrisome?

Hey all. Got through week 1 of healing. Piercer downsized my jewelry at the end of week one. This is a 12 gauge 5/8 length. (Not sure how many mm the balls are). There is no pain and very little swelling now. I can easily move my piercing up and down with no pinching or pain sensations. I have no problems with the length of the shorter bar. However, I feel like my ball falls into my crater pretty low. Any advise?
