It's pretty well established among the fandom that X is the game with the bad story. People repeat it quite often and when recommending X it's often prefaced with "Don't play it for the story". However, I've always enjoyed X's story. I think each story chapter is pretty good except chapter 7, and other Xenoblade games with great stories have noted low points that I find worse. I always found it weird how often the story gets slammed in discussion.

So I wanted to ask, what specific aspects of X's story make it bad? I'm not trying to be defensive, I just want to know what exactly gives this game the reputation it has among fans.

I've been building a skell to defeat the superbosses, and while farming I'm trying to decide between gear focusing on attribute damage increases or ranged attack increases. My build centers around Barrage Cloack, the multi-hit superweapon.

Any help would be appreciated!
