Such rude people here

Moved here from the Bay Area and experiencing a big culture shock. Besides the large amount of inconsiderate drivers on the road, it seems like this attitude is everywhere. Was standing in line to get a coffee this morning and was second in line. Had a lady literally stare and me and proceeded to cut me in line. Don’t get me started on other experiences at the mall or just running errands in this city. Does it get better? And why does everyone stare at you like you are a foreigner?

Does waking up at 4AM ever get better?

Intern on day 12 of a busy surgical service. Send good vibes. Struggling with going to bed at a reasonable time when getting home much later than expected, eating dinner, and finishing notes. 4am rolls around and I think I made the wrong career choice every single day.

Beta blocker for social anxiety - new PGY1

Hi y’all,

New IM PGY-1 who has suffered with bad social anxiety since third year rotations. I would take it periodically when I knew I had to perform in front of a lot of people or or knew attendings were more picky. My anxiety has increased a lot now that I’m expected to be a.. literal doctor.

I was wondering if anybody here takes daily propranolol and if they have found it helpful. My psych just upped my dose and said I could take it twice a day instead of just when I feel like I need it but I’m a little scared to do that since my BP sometimes is on the lower side. Dose is 20 mg BID
Would love any input!

Pregnant wife scared of morning sickness

Hi all,

Posting for my wife who is 5w2d. She’s a 4th year med student and has been understandably anxious since finding out last week. We’re both in medicine, so while this pregnancy was unexpected, we’re genuinely thrilled after putting it off for years.

That said, she’s terrified of morning sickness. She has a couple of specialty rotations starting in August and is worried it’ll affect her performance. Right now her symptoms are mild and no nausea yet, we know it’s probably still early. She’s been taking Unisom and B6 nightly and already has a Zofran Rx ready just in case, but obviously there’s no guarantee either way.

For any working moms or medicine/nurse moms out there, how did you manage nausea and vomiting during long shifts or demanding rotations or at work? Any tips would mean a lot to her.
