Any book on the hands on problems with tools and parts/materials we have to work on?

Are there any books on how to use tools and the problems we have to deal with? Like rusted parts, stuck parts, broken nuts, bolts, or screws,

and why there is difference in shapes (like if they are conic or flat shaped), how to deal with o-rings or similar parts, the shape of threads and their damage, etc.

I know youtube exists and that there is a lot of info (and thrash). But I'm looking specifically for books that can clarify these type of questions.

In 1997, Michael Abrash, one of the lead programmers of Quake, did a post mortem analysis about the game in the GDC conference. Only the audio of that talk is available, but apparently the site searchworks of Stanford university holds a video recording of that talk.

Can someone with an account there download it and share it (or upload it to archive.org!)?

Name of the talk: Quake: A Post-Mortem and a Glimpse into the Future (1997 GDC)
