Machining Brass

I need to make some feet for a table to make it taller. They want them made out of brass, square with a little top but that is 1/16" wider. I'm pretty good at welding brass but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make these besides machining them from a solid 2" square bar. How long would this generally take and how much would it cost. I have a buddy with a CNC mill and I was going to have him cut them but he's on vacation and can't get me a bid.

Also, if anybody has a better way to do this I'm open. I considered making it from bar stock but the little flange at the top makes welding a lot harder.

Guardrail and handrail rules

I'm currently building my first commercial steel railing and I've run into a predicament. I have a guardrail that is 42" tall and a separate handrail that is 36". I know the handrail has to extend one tread length past the nose of the bottom tread. What about the guardrail? I have a post landing in the middle of a 12" tread and I want to end the top of the guardrail at this post. Is this okay or does the top of the guardrail need to extend at least to the nose, or beyond, of the bottom tread.

I'm in Minneapolis, MN for reference.

Rust on blackened steel.

I recently installed some railings that were blackened and waxed. They are rusting through the wax. I've patinated dozens of railings and this has never happened to me before. Has anybody experienced this? What is the best way to remedy this situation? I put more wax on it and it seemed to resolve some of the issues but there are areas that are still rusting.

I had the spindles done for weeks without any wax in my shop for weeks and they were fine. When I went to install it was brutally humid and I had to stash them in the garage for a weekend and when I came to install they had a lot of rust. What's a good way to stop this?

Trying to catch jumping fish at sunset

I'm pretty new to fishing. I went out last night and there were a ton of fish jumping through the surface grabbing fish or bugs by the surface. What were these? How do I catch them? I usually use a jig and slip bobber which seems to be no good trying to get fish by the surface.

I'm in Minnesota.

Corten patina question

I just made a client a corten steel shelf. He wanted the orange patina but didn't want it to stain his house. I wiped it down really well after inducing some rust with acid and then hit it with a clear coat.

It looked great. I installed it.

That night it rained and the next day he sent me a picture of some pretty bad rust haze coming through the clear coat. I read a few conflicting things about what is going on. One said I need a special clear coat. Another said I need to let the corten finish doing its thing over the course of a year before I clear coat.

What is everyone's experience? Any advice is appreciated.
