[Chapter 15, 28, 51] Possible contradiction in Asa’s knowledge regarding the escape?

In Chapter 28, it’s revealed that Asa did not know that it was Roei (Dera’s dad) who told their mother the route out of the Higashi Village barrier. However, in Chapter 51, Asa contradicted herself by recounting how their mother extracted the route out of Roei. Short of a rare plot hole from Arakawa, I don’t know how else to explain this logically – I doubt Asa contacted Roei or Ken, let alone their missing parents, in the time frame between the two chapters for this detail. Any idea how to justify this without chalking it up to a plot hole?

BTW, this is not my own discovery, but something I came across in a Japanese article.

‘We hereby grant you the right to confront Gabby in our stead’

Will we get a Winry–Scar confrontation 2.0 with Azami and Gabby? Winry didn’t forgive Scar, but she chose to be the positive change to break the cycle of hatred instead. Will Azami be the catalyst to break the cycle of revenge between Higashi Village and the Kagemoris? Or considering Arakawa’s commitment to go the other route with YnT, will the confrontation turn out different?

[Chapter 38] How is racism handled in YnT so far?

I’ve seen people criticise how racism was handled in FMA, so I’d like to know what you guys think about this aspect in YnT.

I’m pleasantly surprised there’s a mixed-race character in the story, and Ethiopian at that! Ken is very endearing and I like how he’s the only normal person in the Danno household. I think seeing this issue through Yuru’s eyes, as someone who isn’t aware of race, and through Tsugais’ eyes, as entities who don’t concern themselves with visual differences, offers quite unique angles.

Are there other aspects you’d like to explore more with Ken?

[Chapter 16 & 40 Worldbuilding Analysis] Is this symbol on the cloth related to Break and Seal?

Caught this symbol twice in the story for far (please let me know if I missed more depictions), in Chapter 16 and Chapter 40 respectively. It seems that the cloth with this symbol was used to cover the dead 400 years ago, but in more recent times is used for ceremonial purposes instead (in this case, the vaccination ‘ritual’). The symbol also changed slightly and the eyes became more detailed/accurate. Anyway, two vertical eyes – the right for Break (depicted in Chapter 9) and the left for Seal, yes? Except… the two depictions of a possible Seal in Chapter 39 and Chapter 40 actually have the RIGHT eye, not the left one. I doubt it’s a mistake on Arakawa’s part, but wouldn’t it make sense for Seal to be occupying the left eye instead, for balance? Or are the two Seal depictions actually Break instead?

[Character Analysis] Can the villagers see [Chapter 19 spoiler]? Some thoughts on Yuru’s relationship with the villagers

I am almost up-to-date with the manga (Chapter 52).

Could the villagers see Danji?

Back in Chapter 1, Danji never interacted with anyone except for Yuru and Kyouka, and no other villagers acknowledged him (Yamaha saw him but didn’t acknowledge him either). So it’s safe to say the villagers couldn’t see Danji, and probably didn’t even know of his existence. But this then begs the question: has Yuru never mentioned Danji to anyone else? Because that would have exposed the deception pretty instantly. After all, Danji was by his side long before Asa was replaced. If we were to take this as a hint:

Yuru was never close to the villagers

I know this is based on very limited info that was presented in Chapter 1 and flashbacks, but so far Yuru’s character has been consistent and his thought process understandable, so I don’t think it’s far-fetched to deduce something from it.

This comment by u/nina0797 pretty much sums up Yuru’s underlying distrust of the villagers, and his superficial connection with them. Adding to it, here are my thoughts:

1. Asa was the only person Yuru could open up to in the village. Yuru never once smiled when he interacted with the villagers, nor dwelled on conversing with them (their conversations were on weather and work). He went straight for Asa after the hunt, and only then he smiled. He hid his smile the moment Kyouka came in.

2. He seemed pretty cold or indifferent to Danji, who is presumably his closest friend in the village. Did he never wonder why people addressed only him and not his friend? Did Danji intentionally isolate Yuru from other kids his age to protect him?

3. He thought the only reason he was allowed to live in the village and not get sent away was because he was useful. Useful in the sense that he could hunt and provide food. The fact that he thought he had to work hard to earn his place in the village reflects how little he thought people valued him without his skill.

4. Yuru always seemed to hunt alone. Even when he was still very young and had just lost his parents. It’s quite dangerous in the mountains, you can accidentally slip and fall, you can get attacked by wild animals. You can get injured and no one will know until it’s too late. Of course, this can be explained by the fact that Yuru is incredibly skilled and prefers to be alone / hunt alone, but add in the distrust factor, we get:

4a. Yuru didn’t trust the villagers to (be able to) help, protect, and even save him when nature gets the better of him, or when the bandits attack him. He entrusted his life to Sayuu-sama instead, who weren’t even mobile at that time.

4b. He didn’t want to be seen killing the bandits. What should he even say in that situation? Would he be punished for killing people? Would he be sent away? I would think that murder is not allowed in the village and that Yuru only did so because it was what his father taught him: return murderous intent with murder.

4c. His father told him not to let the villagers know the existence of the bandits, and he followed through. He clearly trusted his father more than the villagers.

4d. The villagers never offered to go with him, and he either didn’t find it strange, or simply accepted the fact that no one would be there for him.

5. Yuru suffered alone when his family left. He hid and wept alone underneath Sayuu-sama instead of finding solace in his peers, adults, or even Asa. He didn’t seem to have anyone to confide his feelings to. He didn’t even seek out Danji – Danji came looking for him and stayed by his side instead (Chapter 19).

6. His whole family seemed ostracised by the village. Before his parents and Asa left, the four of them seemed to hang out around Asa a lot in her cell (Chapter 9). They were trapped and isolated – Danji also mentioned the villagers’ demeaner changing after Yuru and Asa’s birth (Chapter 28).

The villagers didn’t care about Yuru, and Yuru deluded himself into thinking it was normal

The villagers had their reasons to not go hunting with Yuru:

  1. They didn’t want to interfere with the bandits’ murder.

  2. What if Yuru survived and even killed the bandit when a villager was with him? What should the villager say to not raise suspicion? It was a lot easier to not get involved then to pretend to protect Yuru and gain his trust.

  3. They are not about to get accidentally killed ‘for the greater good’.

Yuru was meant to die someday. They shouldn’t get attached, lest they start to oppose killing him once. So their solution was to distance him most of the time and only show friendliness when it was necessary to interact. And Yuru reciprocated by spending most of his time hunting alone and visiting Asa alone, hiding his feelings, and not being hostile towards the villagers when they had to interact.

Either way, this would explain why Yuru abandoned the village physically, mentally, and emotionally so quickly and without much internal conflict. Or he just buried and suppressed his feelings somewhere very deep like he always does. His speech in Chapter 11 when he expressed disagreement with Kagemori’s treatment of his village focused more on the fact that it was his birthplace than the people inside (his ‘friends’ might have referred to Danji only).

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I like angst and Yuru has so much to offer 😗

Have you read the Trigun manga?

Haven’t found a poll like this, curious to know how many of you have actually read the source material: the Trigun トライガン and Trigun Maximum トライガン・マキシマム manga by Nightow Yasuhiro 内藤泰弘.

If you haven’t already, please read it! It’s the best version in my opinion. You can read them with Trigun Ultimate Overhaul (pinned post).

[DC TCG] Very good pulls from the latest Detective Conan TCG booster (CT-P09)!

Photo 1

The 10 guaranteed pulls from each box that I got (from leftmost): 4 CPs (common parallels), 2 RPs (rare parallels), 2 SRs (super rares), 1 MR (mystery rare) [rightmost top], and 1 SRP (super rare parallel) [rightmost bottom]

Photo 2

My favourites:

- Cute scenes from The Final Screening Murder Case

- Only 1 out of the 8 SRs used Gosho’s art this time, and it’s Heiji and Kazuha from The Tottori Spider Mansion Demon Case (I prefer cards with Gosho’s art instead of original art from other artists). Love the foil on the motorbike headlamp

- Iconic scene from The Diplomat Murder Case. There’s also a foiled version (CP) that I will buy separately

- There’s only 1 out of the 15 RPs using Gosho’s art this time, and I got it XD

- Would have preferred them using Toichi’s ‘?’ panel instead of this one, but still a great pair of cards ❤️

- Morofushi Takaaki is my favourite character 🥰 (anyone else?), and his CP card is VERY sought after and relatively expensive. Can’t believe I pulled it 😭

- Scene from my favourite case, The Trembling Police Headquarters: 12 Million Hostages Case

- The 1000th card (in terms of unique Card ID) of DC TCG!

Conan TCG is celebrating its 2nd Anniversary with this booster, so there are 2nd Anniversary special arts of some of the characters (e.g. the Naeko and Takaaki ones). It also has a focus on the main characters appearing in the latest DC movie, Fallen Angel of the Highway.

I love the foil they add to the characters’ eyes, which they only started doing recently. The quality of original art has also improved a lot, so I bought a booster box this time instead of singles like I usually do.

If anyone has questions regarding DC TCG, feel free to ask me!

Here is a website with the approximate card prices listed if anyone is interested. Here’s the page for this booster. Official website for the card list.

Will share more of my collection in the future 🥰
