Fan Running

I have a 2023 XC40 Recharge and today is the first time I noticed a fan running about 6 hours after driving and 2hours after being charged to my 90% limit. The car was still plugged into the charger but it wasn't charging at the time. I unplugged the charging cable and the fan noise kept going. The ambient temp was about 95F. I also tried to turn on the climate system, which made the fan noise much louder, possible an entirely different fan spooling up. Then turned off the climate system and it went back to the lower volume fan noise.

I know it's normal to hear a cooling fan for up to 10 minutes after driving or during charging, but this was neither of those. I'm wondering if anyone experienced this. I read from other ICE Volvo subs that it might be a fan module or something like that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

EDIT: I think I found my answer: https://www.reddit.com/r/XC40_Recharge/comments/1vxnur5/fan_running_in_extreme_temperature_while_parked/

Bait clean up help

I feel dumb even asking for advice, but here goes. I don't fish, but my son had a run in with Mike's Glo Mallow bait.

He was at summer camp and as kids tend to do stupid pranks, someone put some of the bait on my son's pillow. Now the case and memory foam are stained a fluorescent yellow.

Does anyone know how to get this out or is the case and pillow now trash? I suspect bleach might work for the light colored case. But the actual memory foam is stumping me. Thanks.

Chamfer Question

Hi, looking for advice. I've got a raised porch with a wood railing. The railing is topped with a 2x6 that has a slight chamfer approximately 5 degrees or so. Imagine a ridge on the 5.25" surface of the 2x6. This was a good touch to have water shed off the top of the rail, but it's very difficult to match as I need to replace some rotted pieces of railing.

What suggestions do you have to create this chamfer? I could need to do this on up to 12' or more length 2x6. A hand plane seems like it's not sufficient.

I'd like to avoid buying a table saw if possible. Will a electric hand plane work and what techniques are suggested for such a shallow chamfer? Will a belt sander work? What's the recommendation here? Other tools at my disposal are a circular saw or sheet sander.

I was thinking that my circular saw together with a Kreg Rip Cut guide that I have could cut this (put the board on the vertical and tilt the saw a few degrees) but it doesn't seem very safe or able to result in a consistent cut for such a long length.

2022 PHEV Limited overheating

Looking for general advice about my situation. My car just over heated from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Car lost power going uphill, air conditioning warmed up, pulled over and car wouldn't move at all and rolled backwards in drive. The temp reading was normal, but opening the hood saw light smoke coming from engine block. Also, check engine light came on.

The car recently had 2 front lower control arms replaced and transmission replaced. Both under warranty at the dealer.

I read ITM issues are common to the 2.5L engine, not the 1.6L. Anyway, made it to Vegas with several stops to cool down. Coolant level looks normal. Check engine light gone after 30 min stop.

High School Course Selection Advice

My son is a rising junior in HS. He is interested in studying finance, business, or econ in college and wants to go to the best school that will accept him. He's a straight A student and probably going to continue with high marks. He's got a bunch of DE classes to get a business analytics certificate at graduation.

  1. How should we think about math in his final 2 years? His counselor is pushing him towards Advanced Calc AND Statistics 101 via Dual Enrollment in his junior year. This leaves us with a "what the heck do we do for math" in his senior year. Every college advisor, application presentation, counselor says colleges want to see 4 years of math. We really don't want to go off campus for some college math and besides, business and finance doesn't really need anything beyond differential equations of Advanced Calculus. We're also stuck with the advice that he should not do Advanced Calc in senior year because that'll be seen as a gap in junior year even though Stat 101 is math, it's not considered a rigorous math course by colleges. We're so confused here and looking for advice.

  2. Is taking 3 years of Spanish and then 1 of French ok? His reason is that he's interested in studying abroad in France for a semester or year and this interest didn't start until after he'd started high school and taken Spanish for 2 years.

His courses so far (DE = dual Enrollment):

9th: AP World History; English 1 Honors; Biology Honors; Spanish 1; Football; Advanced Broadcast Journalism (nationally recognized school production)

9/10 Summer: Math 260 Precalc DE

10th: AP Human Geography / AP Comparative Govt; English 2 Honors; AP Calc BC; Spanish 2; Basketball; Advanced Broadcast Journalism; Psych 066 Critical Thinking DE Fall; Business Law 005 DE Spring

10/11 Summer: History 012 DE (AP US History equivalent); Finance internship at a boutique investment bank

His plan for for next 2 years:

11th: AP Euro History; AP English Language; Advanced Calculus Honors; AP Physics C Mech and E&M; Spanish 3 Honors; Advanced Broadcast Journalism; Statistics 101 DE Fall (AP Stat equivalent); Business 001 DE Fall

11/12 summer: Chem 065 DE (AP Chem equivalent)

12th: Ap American Govt/AP Econ; AP Literature and Comp; AP Physics 2; French 1; Advanced Broadcast Journalism; Finance 001 DE Fall; Data Management DE Spring; either ASB or empty period for another internship
