Quiet Center City Studio. $1,050 All Utilities Incl – Lease Takeover thru Oct. (Washington Square West: Steps from the Gayborhood)

$1,050/month, ALL utilities included (electric, gas, water) — looking to hand off by September 1st, running through end of October, with the option to sign a new 12-month lease directly with the property after.

Security deposit: $1,050 (one month's rent), paid to me directly after the property approves you — it stays on the account, so no extra costs at move-in beyond first month's rent.

Unfurnished studio, completely empty and ready for your own setup.

The space:

  • ~200 sq ft, 2nd floor, easy elevator access (functional, reasonably modern)
  • AC unit included
  • Genuinely quiet — no neighbors on 3 sides, solid wall/ceiling insulation
  • In-building laundry (wash + dry for ~$4 total)

The location (Washington Square West / Clinton St):

  • 2-minute walk to Louis Kahn Park
  • 10–15 min walk to ACME, Trader Joe's, and Chinatown grocery stores
  • 5-minute walk to the Gayborhood's main nightlife strip
  • Tree-lined, quiet residential block, walking distance to Jefferson University and Pennsylvania Hospital

Good to know:

  • You'd apply directly through Michael Singer Realty Estate (MSRE) — standard credit/income approval process, nothing unusually strict for Philly rentals
  • Pets generally allowed (up to 2) — worth confirming specifics with the office
  • No dedicated parking, but residential street parking permits are available through the city
  • Management is responsive, reasonable, and easy to work with

Great fit for a student, medical professional, or anyone wanting a quiet, walkable Center City home base without a long lease commitment. Happy to answer questions or set up a viewing!

Culture shock: just moved from NYC

My first 2 weeks here: just writing this as you may find it entertaining. My first impressions...

  1. Why do random strangers have the patience to answer my questions without there being some sort of power play? Is this... how normal interactions are supposed to be??

  2. My new boss here told me that I'm a bit abrasive with my coworkers ): I told them that they needed to be more specific and direct about what exactly they meant. Lmao

  3. A group of volunteers literally came up TO ME and asked if I liked bananas and PB&J sandwiches... because they tried giving them all the away, and they STILL had cases and cases of extras. I literally had no food in my apt when I first moved here... lived on those trays of food for a bit lol. Is community not dead here??

  4. How much is [insert event or hangout activity]? What do you mean it's free??

  5. I don't have a car, so I'll just pay for a Lyft/Uber... wait, what do you mean you can give me a ride? Can I get your gas? No? Why? What do you mean I'm supposed to rely on you for just this one moment and just... accept it?? Is this what a less hyper-independent society looks like???

  6. Met some gay dudes who said they didn't like Mamdani because he's too "extreme". Had to revoke their Queer Card (I have many Queer Cards).

  7. I didn't realize I had an inner monologue?? Started talking to myself on the street and... no one's there to judge???

  8. When is this getting done? Hello?? I'm following up for the third time. Why are you not acting like it's an emergency? Everything's an emergency ! ! ! Right ... ? ? ?

  9. What do you mean I only spent $45 at the supermarket?

  10. Was going to go to a social event. Event got canceled?? So went to the store, bought some beer and pickle flavored chips with a friend and just... went home. And had a blast.

Anyways. Excited to be in Columbus. Sorry for the mini hurricanes: they were announcing my presence. Lol.

I have more thoughts on figuring out how to make friends as an adult, here on my Substack as well (:

Hope everyone is recovering okay after the mini hurricanes!
