What are people who can’t find patches doing instead?

There’s a shortage (at least where I live) and it sounds like it could be months before they have any estradiol patches back in stock. what kind of alternatives are being offered? Or are you just going without?

Brief blissful reprieve and now it’s back 😫

I’ve had constant fullness and pressure since September with the exception of two weeks in January. Last week, I had a whole week with no fullness or pressure and relatively normal hearing. And now the fullness is back. It was so nice to have a break and it’s so frustrating that it’s gone. No question, just venting.

Betahistine for Cochlear Hydrops?

I just had a horrible experience trying a diuretic for cochlear hydrops (just ear symptoms, no vertigo yet). Now my doctor wants me to try Betahistine. I thought the evidence didn’t support Betahistine helping MD, let alone hydrops. Has anyone actually had it help with the hearing fluctuation? I’m leery about trying another new medication since I’m really prone to side effects and allergic reactions to medications.

Vertigo Differential Diagnoses

I apologize if this doesn’t exactly fit here. My brother has been struggling with worsening vertigo for years. He had some ear fullness at the end of last year but otherwise no hearing issues. His vertigo has gotten so bad he’s been in the hospital for days and the doctors are stumped. I’m wondering if you all know what some of the various conditions that can cause vertigo are. Obviously Menieres is one. I’ve seen BPPD mentioned. What else have you encountered in your quest for a diagnosis? What tests should he be asking the doctors to run? He’s desperate to find some answer so he can go home. He can’t even walk at the moment.

Does anything help the fullness and pressure?

I’ve seen lots of info on treatments for vertigo. I’m wondering if anyone has found anything that helps the fullness and pressure. It’s driving me crazy. My hearing issues started last August following a head cold. With the exception of maybe two-three weeks at the end of December, the fullness and pressure have been constant. Sometimes the pressure gets a little worse but it never goes away. My hearing loss is low frequency only and it has apparently fluctuated (45db loss to 30 to 25, then back to 45) but I don’t really notice the hearing changes since my good ear does a good job compensating. The ear stuff would be more tolerable if the pressure and fullness were gone. I’ve learned to adapt to the tinnitus and hyperacusis.

Constant Fullness, also POTS

My ear troubles started last August. My hearing loss is in my right ear, low frequencies only, and the loss has fluctuated so the ENT thinks it’s cochlear hydrops (or cochlear Meniere’s as he referred to it). I can’t tell when the hearing shifts happen since it’s only the low frequencies. My worst measure was a 45 db loss. My best has been a 25 db loss. I have had constant, unending fullness and pressure, tinnitus, and hyperacusis since this started. It seems like others get a break from these symptoms in between attacks. Can people have cochlear hydrops if the non-hearing loss symptoms persist constantly?

Also, does anyone else have POTS or something adjacent? I don’t have an official diagnosis (no tilt table test) but my doctor thinks I have it, or something similar, because I feel dizzy and sick when I stand still for more than a minute. She said not to restrict sodium because sodium can help POTS symptoms but my ENT put me on a diuretic to flush out sodium. Now, I’m struggling more with POTS symptoms. I honestly don’t know how to manage these two conditions simultaneously since the treatments are opposites. If the diuretic helps stabilize my hearing or with the fullness/tinnitus/hyperacusis, I’ll choose my ear over my ability to stand. But, it’s frustrating having to choose.

Diazide

My doctor wants me to take diazide, a diuretic, to treat Meniere’s. He thinks it might stabilize the fluctuating hearing loss. I looked it up and it looks like an awful medication with tons of risks and side effects and Mayo says it shouldn’t be the first diuretic you try. has anyone actually had success taking this to manage Meniere’? Is it worth it?
