Tschaikovsky 1st Symphony horn part

Hello 👋🏻

I have a question. In the second movement of Tchaikovsky’s first symphony, there are only two horns in the score (one system a2). In many video recordings, however, I see that three or four horns are used in this movement. Has this become so established in the meantime and is it so common in this symphony or were they misprints in the scores I saw? I checked different scores that indicate only 2 horns in this sentence. And there are also video recordings in which only 2 horns play.

Thank you

Any idea what horn brand this is?

Does anyone have an idea which horn brand this is? The private seller claims it is a Reynolds double horn. It is unmarked, so I am in doubt. It bears some resemblance to a Reynolds double horn, but I find it strange that there is no brand name engraved on the bell. And string linkages are not common in Reynolds. They may have been retrofitted, of course. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. :)

Is this worth looking at?

First time lurker, first time poster. Long time F horn admirer (especially the Mozart horn concertos 🤌🤌)

My son started trumpet lessons this year with the intent to switch to French horn when he gets further along/when we can afford one. Today while scrolling fb marketplace, I see this listing pop up, with only these pics. The dude says he didn’t practice or get good like he wanted to yada yada yada.

The finish isn’t very pretty anymore, but is this even worth looking into? A quick google search said to check valve compression, interior corrosion, and slides.

Can anyone tell just by looking at this whether it’s too far gone? I’m not afraid to pay for repairs if they’re worth it, but I mostly want to avoid a $600 mistake.

I’m also open to general advice for my son’s brass journey.

Help! I need criticism!

I just started working on this piece (Reverie, Glazounow) and i feel like i sound a bit nasally. I’ve been playing for 2ish years now and i would just like some advice as i am not at the level where i am very good at critiquing myself.

(please ignore the clanking of my valves my instrument is a school instrument and not in the best of condition)

Horn case recommendations

Looking to buy a case for a horn with detachable bell. Looking for a hard shell case with room for a mute. Ideally compact as well as I travel frequently on trains. Any recommendations?

I just bought this French horn used and I’m trying to figure out what brand and model it is there’s no serial numbers that I know of or markings and it’s missing the main tuning slide and I’m also wondering if I would need to get that custom made

Need practice advice

okay so currently I am in-between high-school and college and I don’t have an actual french horn teacher at the moment, so I am wondering what is it that I should practice? I am still practicing scales, long tones, and working out of the Schantl book, but It feels sort of aimless without having an actual performance piece to work on. I would greatly appreciate any advice on ways to get out of this sort of practicing slump or recommendations of pieces to learn to give myself something to work towards!!

How to get spit out of stuck slide

My 3rd bflat slide is stuck and there is so much spit in it that I’m playing exclusively on f side when I need to use third valve. I purchased this horn used and it’s the only stuck slide, I believe it’s bent. Typically I’d take it into the shop but it’s tech week for a pit orchestra I’m playing in. Is there any way I can get the spit out without removing the slide?

Yes I’m going to get the slide fixed when the musical is done, no I cannot hammer it out, I’ve tried but the issue is that it’s bent. I’ve been playing horn for 15 years and have never had this issue!
