"Trump administration declares brass instruments a national security threat"
I wish this were satire.
>This week, the Trump administration declared tubas, trombones, trumpets, and French horns a national security threat.
>Yes, really. Brass instruments could soon face a 25% tariff on imports, parts, and accessories, as part of a wider push to expand tariffs on aluminium, steel, and copper.
>The six-page proposal, published this week by the Department of Commerce, uses the words “national security” nine times.
If you don't want the price of your brass instruments to rise 25%, please contact your representatives. You can input your address here and it will pull up the contact information for your federal, state, and local representatives. Just copy-pasting a quick email to all of them could go a long way!
You know how you can tell
…that GPS and navigation apps were designed by men who had no children, or foisted all their childcare off on someone else, and never bothered to consult a single parent?
There is not a big red emergency “TOILET” button that finds the nearest bathroom.
Searching for ‘bathroom’ or ‘toilet’ brings up nothing.
There’s rarely accurate data on whether a building has publicly accessible bathrooms.
If I want to take a potty-training child anywhere, I have to plan out the entire process beforehand like a general planning to march an army across a desert.
Dahl Hacks
I have some growing kids doing their best to eat me out of hearth and home. I read once about a family who solved the problem by always having a pot of dahl and rice going in the kitchen. We love dahl, so that sounds like a healthy, affordable, and delicious way to feed a horde of ravening teenagers.
But all the “easy” dahl recipes I can find have at least fifteen ingredients and twenty steps.
Does anybody have a genuinely easy dahl recipe? I am A-okay with taking all the shortcuts. Give me a brand of store-bought curry sauce I can use. Tell me which ingredients I can skip. Tell me how to throw it in the slow cooker and come back in five hours to a fully cooked meal. Can you make dahl in, say, five steps with five ingredients?
We have a rice cooker, so at least that part is easy.
Selling Golden Terrace and Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish Books
Edit: Looks like they've all been claimed!
There was a mix-up and I somehow ended up with TWO complete copies of the Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish series. They're both in like-new condition and one hasn't even been read. Asking for $20 + shipping for the whole series (books 1-4).
I also have the Golden Terrace series (books 1-2). Asking for $10 + shipping for those. Like-new condition.
I live in the US so USPS Media Mail probably would only cost about $10 to anyone in the US. I can ship internationally using UPS or FedEx but the recipient would be responsible for import duties and fees.
I'd also love to talk about a swap! Any complete series of danmei that I don't already have in exchange for one of the series above.
My daughter is 7 and just about ready to try her first chapter book. But anything above about 50 pages intimidates her. What's a good short, introductory chapter book for a beginning reader?
She really wants something funny. The longest book she's read so far was a collection of knock-knock jokes, and she read it three times before it was due back at the library. She also loved being read Captain Underpants, Wayside School, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Matilda, although they are too long for her to read by herself.
Sci-fi and fantasy have not been hits. We only got about three chapters into The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe. She took one look at Dealing With Dragons and said it didn't look interesting at all.
