High G note on tenor for solo

High G note on tenor for solo

Hi,

So I was reading the solo part on tenor for next years marching band show and I got to measure 36 and can not play the high G for the life of me. After a tutorial and fingering chart, I am play every note up to an F# great, but every time I play a G, it cracks or squeaks.

I have a 3 reed and a bunch of 3.5 reeds and a tenor that has no high F# trill key. I only play tenor for marching band so it’s been a while. I play first oboe in the top band at my school in concert band.

I understand that it is altissimo and played a little different but no matter what I do, it doesn’t even almost come out.

I was playing octave and Front F and 2nd finger plus side Bb key for F# and lifting the 2nd finger to go to a G.

Any advice or help is much appreciated

Is retaking really necessary?

Hi all,

I am a junior in high school with a 3.45 gpa and 5 APs and current 29 ACT

I am not planning to apply go crazy schools and I am retaking in 22 days from now. (June 13) So do I bother studying hard and retaking for a chance at 30-32 score?

University of Iowa is guaranteed admission so I’m not worried about getting in nowhere, but the main concern is how much a 30-32 will raise scholarship money. Is it worth all that time and effort? I am applying early action so I’ll have to test by September at the latest and July and August are mostly full by now I think so no taking it later.

Here’s where I’m applying if it matters. They are ranked mostly by how much I like the campus and cost. I’m in state for Illinois btw.

  1. UIowa
  2. UIUC
  3. Indiana Bloomington
  4. UW Madison
  5. Purdue

Thanks.
