Need Suggestions for Good VLSI Projects and Skills to Learn Before/During M.Tech

Hi everyone,
I’ll be joining M.Tech in a Tier-1 college in India this August. I’m interested in VLSI and want to build my skills more seriously before and during M.Tech. Right now I know some Verilog, digital design basics, computer architecture, and I have done a few RTL/processor-related projects.
I was looking at project ideas online and saw that many people do protocol implementations like UART, SPI, I2C, etc. I understand those are important for learning basics, but since many people already do similar projects, I wanted to ask if there are any other projects/topics that would help me learn more and also be useful for industry roles.
I’m mainly interested in digital roles and I’m open to both frontend and backend. I wanted to know:
1)What kind of projects actually help during placements/interviews?
2)What skills do companies usually expect from M.Tech students in digital/VLSI roles
3)Are there any good project ideas that are a little different from the usual protocol projects?
4)Which areas should I focus more on during M.Tech if I want good opportunities in VLSI?
I've attached my projects for context. Any suggestions or guidance would really help. Thanks!
