Trying new factions in TTS - any recommendations?

For the past 2 years of the hobby ive been trying to get better at nids, and recently ive been trying to get better at deathguard, both of which I'm a fan of, but ive also been trying a variety of other factions. In the past few months I've tried, tau, necrons, mechanicus, chaos knights, votann, space marines, and orks. In terms of enjoyment of factions I'd say nids, deathguard, admech, necrons, and chaos knights as my general top 5.

To help narrow my search ive asked some buddies how I tend to play, and here what they said, generally.

I tend to play a good bit of chunky models, with a favor towards big monsters, big tanks, and daemon engines. Though I also really like a good bit of chaff and hordes like gaunts or hearthkyn yeagirs. I don't really like using stuff with super high speed outside of vehicles, and I don't particularly like transports. Though my favorite units are distraction carnifexes

I like to play super cagey and cautiously, trying to avoid lines of sight. I've also been told I'm very very reactive and opportunistic, I tend to wait to see what my opponent does before I do anything. I was also described as very "pokey".

With the sorta stuff that ive described, what army would you guys say I should try next? Im generally open to most stuff!

Haven't been having fun with deathguard recently, not sure what I'm doing wrong

Hellooo, I've had DG for about a year now, and I've enjoyed having them and playing them quite a bit, but recently I just haven't felt like deathguard really hits the kind of feeling I'm looking for.

Maybe this is just me going on an endless goose chase, but I just feel like deathguard haven't really been enjoyable for me, on the tabletop at least. I've always thought DG was cool, but it wasn't until I really started getting into what i like that I discovered that I like both DG's models, as well as their lore. I found the history of the deathguard to be really cool, as well as a bunch of little quirks about the faction. I think chaos numerology is super cool, and I like having a faction that doesn't want to kill itself, or be unfathomably mean to eachother.

But I've been playing DG for a good while now, and something just feels off when I play. I'm not sure what it is, but something always feels out of place. I love plague marines, I love tanks, I love their daemon engines, but something just feels wrong. I just don't really know what DG's end goal should be. Like, I know what nids are supposed to do, just hold onto objectives and score, super simple. But with deathguard I don't know when I need to wait, what my endgame should look like in a game, and what my main goal even is, let alone how to achieve it in a match. I just wish there was a clear answer, like with orks and WE its get into melee, for tau and admech its stay at a range while using their unique rules to hold shooting lanes and stuff. For DG everything feels so messy and I feel like I wanna do so much at the same time, but nothing too.

Recently I tried the assimilation swarm detachment against my buddy, and I had a really good time! I like having a variety of all sorts of models, but I really like having chaff with a lot of models in the unit so I don't need to worry about them dying. I think it may be because I always prefer to pick the "largest" thing in any sort of game, I like to have the biggest and toughest war machines, and I hate feeling small, something like that.

Though, it could also be how I play. I've been told that i play extremely cautious (at least with my bugs) and I tend to favor long-drawn out engagements with ranged firepower, some form of attrition iirc. Some would say to try the iron warriors, but their legion's lore just drives me away. I like the bulk of space marines, but I also like having a lot of chaff to do action stuff.

I really don't know, I feel and want to be completely in love with deathguard, but there's just something that I really can't describe when I see them on the table and play with them. Its like, I prefer the tanks of the deathguard, but I miss the board control feeling of tyranids. What do you all think I should do? Should I try and fall back in love with deathguard, or will I be better satisfied with another army?

Edit: I also have the same problem with the PM kill team. I'm just not sure how to really use them effectively, im not sure if I rush in or turtle on objectives.

Been feeling weird about deathguard recently - would like to advice to help improve

Recently I've been playing deathguard pretty on and off, and whenever I use them there's this weird feeling that I can't shake. I don't know what it is, but I feel like something is just out of place, I like to have a solution and then work backwards with how to get to it, I like to know what a good version of something looks like before I try it on my own.

In a previous post I've mentioned how I tend to play rather defensively, with a heavy emphasis on having big ranged units like HBL drones. I like to wait for the enemy to come challenge me for objectives, then I move into action. But im not sure if that's even how DG should play, I like to grind my opponents units down.

However, I really want to use a good amount of Plague marines, I love line infantry and big tanks/daemon engines. I've listened to the disgustingly resilient podcast a ton, but I just struggle with justifying certain unit choices, primarily regular bloat drones as well as blight haulers. I know what they do, but im just not sure when to put them in a list.

I've always focused on out scoring and holding objectives, and I find the super big "go turn" just not fun and a bit lackluster at times. I tend to be rather relaxed and defensive, but im not sure thats really "deathguard". I really enjoy stuff like assimilation swarm for nids though. I love having units that are super hard to take down, creating problems for my friends I play with is quite fun.

I'd just really like to know if anyone else has this sort of odd feeling when playing an army, like "I know I should like this but something feels wrong". Like, I know what my end goal for tyranids are, but im still confused on the end goal for deathguard

Hello! I've been playing 40k for a good 2 and a half years now and I feel like I've finally got a grasp on how to properly play the game, and how I prefer to solve problems

Though, recently I've been thinking about how I play, and while I'm familiar with playstyles or archetypes in videogames that I play, I was wondering if there was a definition or something like that for how I enjoy playing 40k. I really like having board control, that's my main objective for the most part. Though I like to stay in my own deployment zone or little area behind ruins for the most part. I play very defensively, only bringing out units that can trade well, or I know won't matter if they die. I try to play the long game, making the opponent come to me and trying to get good angles with my big guns. I never rush down the board, I don't like risky play, I like to stay in my little bubble and only come out when the time is right, after being extremely cautious most of the game.

I also like to have good durability so that I can hold onto objective markers well, and that I can slowly win over time, though the main way I like to play games is to put my opponent in a position where its really hard for them to recover, making them feel cornered or pinned. If there's a definition or name for this playstyle I'd love to know! I wanna get better at 40k, so understand how I play seems like a good first step
