Automobile Service Center

Today I took my car to a local dealer for a covered warranty service. So nothing was for going to cost me a penny. However I looked at their post work printout and saw that their rate was $194.55. I presumed that was the hourly rate and really was amazed that this would translate to a $390,000 a year salary.

I feel comfortable in saying they are NOT paying their mechanics that much. But I also recognize that before my car is touched there is the guy checking it for service in the driveway bay. Then there is my service advisor. Then whether I need it or not there is the person who arranges transportation and then the person who takes payment if needed. So my guess is there are probably a half dozen people assigned to my car each time it comes in so the $390k certainly gets divided.

I did move here from somewhere else. It was a place I basically grew up in so I knew mechanics shops that were probably the owner and maybe five mechanics and the service was great and reasonable.

Now I do also recognize I live in far east Tucson towards Vail and suspect that there aren’t that many historic mechanic shops out this way. However are there any old school mechanic shops in town that are small sized and reasonable?
