Update: Asymmetrical filaments?

Hello! Some of you may have seen this post of mine yesterday, and I’m pleased to say that after over 36 hours of staying still, this little guy has FINALLY moved and possibly moulted overnight, as one of his filaments looks a lot longer. However I can’t help but notice that one of his filaments appears longer than the other! Is that a bad sign?? Did he have a rough moult, maybe?

I found him on the ground this morning, sitting on a dead brown leaf, so I placed it on the milkweed to give him easy access to food and to keep him out of sight of any predators. However, as far as I can tell, he hasn’t eaten any of the milkweed yet and just kind of keeps pacing back and forth on this one leaf waggling his filaments and occasionally looking around. I hope he isn’t sick or injured, but he does seem to be pretty dang resilient LOL

What’s going on?

Hello! Yesterday I made a post about this little guy (here) and his green vomit. He’s seemed alright since then, however I’m a bit worried at the moment because he’s been sitting under this teeny tiny leaf of a minuscule plant beside my milkweeds for 24 hours now. He’s barely moved at all, and while I know that can be normal I’m a bit worried!

He had fallen off his milkweed yesterday before he traversed to his current position, and since my mom raised him from an egg inside (terrible, I know, hence why I released him), I’m worried that he doesn’t know how to get back to the milkweed! You can see one of the plants in the background, but I don’t know how good his navigational skills are and I’m nervous about the fact that he hasn’t eaten in a day and is showing no sign of making a J or anything.

Last night I placed a leaf underneath him which had broken off one of my milkweeds, in case he was hungry, but he just thrashed angrily at me so I immediately left him alone. I’m so nervous! I’ve never experienced a maternal instinct in my life before, yet now I’m sooo worried about this silly little caterpillar LOL. Would it be a terrible idea to move him to a milkweed? Is he going to starve?? Am I worried over nothing?? Thanks in advance, you were all very kind and helpful yesterday :)

Help! What’s happening??

This guy is in his fourth instar, probably approaching his fifth pretty soon. He’s been eating like a machine the past few days (third picture was taken this morning).

However, for the past couple hours, he’s been in the same position motionless on the underside of a leaf - and he’s folded his tentacles up against his head (see first pic). I just checked on him and noticed this foul-smelling green liquid leaking down the leaf, appearing to be coming from his head. What the hell is happening??

For context, I don’t use pesticides on my milkweeds. He’s been chewing on this plant for a while with no signs of issue. It rained lightly earlier today. I haven’t seen any other critters crawling on or around the milkweeds. Did he smush himself between the leaves and damage his tentacles??? Could something have attacked him?? Is he dying?!?

I’m so nervous, he’s been the healthiest and most active of all the cats on my milkweeds and I’d hate for something to be going wrong. Please help!

This might be a controversial opinion, but I really dislike these designs (forgive my stupid quick sketch haha)

It just sort of irks me when someone is like “I made a female Ben 10 OC, here are her alien forms.” And then all of the designs look like this.

I can sort of understand this kind of design for humanoid aliens like the tetramands, but when wildmutt and stinkfly are drawn with tig ol’ bitties it just feels like uninspired gooner slop imo. Especially when there’s aliens that have canon designs for female members of the species! Like in the Gwen 10 episode, her pyronite form looks more or less exactly like heatblast, if a little slimmer. Not like heatblast with an hourglass figure?

I dunno, obviously everyone is entitled to their creative liberties, but I just personally feel like it would be more interesting to come up with unique designs instead of copy and pasting a bunch of generic sexy aliens

ID? Southern Ontario

Can anyone tell me what each of these might be? I think at least one might be from a wild turkey, as I live in a forest and we get lots of those around here, but I’ve also seen lots of hawks around lately and have heard plenty of owls in the past so I’m hoping one of these is from a cooler bird LOL

Thanks!

Is this a morel? (Southern Ontario)

Hi there! I know nothing about foraging mushrooms but I found this little beauty on a walk in the woods where I live. My girlfriend was in disbelief when I told her I didn’t harvest it - I guess they’re uncommon? I think I might head back and take it, but I just had a couple questions if anyone would be willing to answer them! Thanks in advance :)

  • Is this a true morel? How do I know for sure?
  • If I pull/cut it, will that damage the mycelium network underneath? The main reason I didn’t take it is because I’m nervous that I’ll kill the rest of it/it’ll never regrow etc etc
  • If I do take it, is there a way for me to try and “replant” some spores in the forest before I eat it? I know they grow under very specific conditions and there’s no guarantees, but if I could have the chance of growing more of these on my property then that would be cool haha.

Sorry for all the silly questions - as I said, I’m totally unfamiliar with mushrooms. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi there, I’ll try to keep this succinct, but I apologize in advance for the length.

So - my mom’s cat, Willow, has had a nasty open sore on her face since January. My mom came home from work one day and there was a nasty gash on Willow’s brow. She took her to the vet and they gave her antibiotics and a cone to wear. A possibly relevant factor: my mom decided to get a new kitten right after the wound appeared, and Willow absolutely HATES it. She still does.

Initially my mom wasn’t really being strict with the cone wearing (“because she just gets so miserable when it’s on” - and before you all ream her out for being irresponsible, trust me, I already did that). Naturally, this led to Willow scratching at it and making it much bigger. After this my mom tried keeping the cone on her for a month straight, while giving her antibiotics and cortisone cream from the vet. Apparently, it didn’t get even remotely better for that entire time, and after hearing about her behavioural changes, the vet recommended that we not bother with the cone since it clearly wasn’t helping the wound and seemed to be making her depressed.

Now, I’ve been away at university for most of the time that Willow’s had this injury, but I just graduated a week ago and came home to find that it’s evolved into a full-blown festering sore that’s taking up most of her temple/cheek. I asked my mom what the hell happened and she explained that it’s been months of vet visits that haven’t really gotten her anywhere.

They found out she’s allergic to chicken, so we switched her food. The vet theorized that an autoimmune disorder might be the reason it won’t heal, but every medication they’ve tried hasn’t really made a difference. According to my mom, the only time it seemed to start healing was when she switched the food, but she claims she can’t even remember what combination of meds she was giving Willow during that brief period (again, please don’t berate my mom in the replies because I assure you I am already quite frustrated with her) and insists that none of the treatments have shown any effect.

Now Willow’s had the cone on for the past couple weeks and it’s still getting worse (or at least not getting better). My mom refuses to go to the vet again because she’s already made so many very expensive trips there in the past five months, with nothing to show for it. I’d take the cat myself but as I said, I just graduated university and absolutely don’t have the money for a vet trip. I just don’t know what else to do - it sounds like my mom has tried just about everything. Willow used to be such a sweet, friendly, and vocal girl, but now she’s miserable all the time. She hardly ever makes sounds or meows now. She rarely snuggles us or sits on our laps anymore. Recently, she’s figured out that she can use her paw to hold the cone steady in order to mash her injured cheek against the inside of it, so aside from watching her 24/7 (which obviously isn’t possible), I have no idea how to keep her from ripping open the wound while we’re at work.

Again, I’m sorry for the long post. But I just have no idea what to do and it’s breaking my heart having to see my girl so miserable and disfigured. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you so much in advance ❤️
