Short beautiful day, got hot out fast

I hate how evident this environmental temperature increase is. I have run outside for most days of the year, for close to three decades now...I have never seen it this continuously hot for so many days in a row.

We got a little under 5 miles total, but it was a beautiful day despite turning around early.

Today's 7.5 mi canicross was a success

The key is to get up before it gets too hot for her! She did great today and was still enthusiastically jogging through til the end.

My trail tiger

My beautiful brindle baby. Every morning we do our canicross training. I try to rotate different trails all the time so she gets a variety of locations and environments. Mountains, plains, and high desert bluffs - every morning is a new play date with the trails. (Life is good at the intersection of ecosystems.)

She is part shepherd which makes her an extremely enthusiastic and trainable herding dog. Her job is herding me on the trails!!

We have worked our mileage up to where she is comfortable leading me around 6 miles(+/-) each day. I am careful for her to not overwork her, but I'm already looking forward to some longer days with her when she is trained up. Hoping to take her on a 15 mile loop in the autumn and many different runs of several hours duration once she's ready.

Super scenic 6 mile canicross this morning

The clouds lifted off lingering wildfire smoke this morning, so we had a clear time for our canicross training. Unfortunately the smoke is thick this afternoon, as it seems the whole Western US is burning.

My new training gal

We are just beginning (~1 mo) our running training, so we keep it short and sweet, usually less than 5k. But as she gets stronger, I can tell she wants to do longer distances!

Can't voice pass after almost a decade on T...starting to lose some hope

Hey there, a little background, I have been on T for almost a decade and I'm in my 40s, but my voice never dropped with T.

I had good, maybe even great results with everything else. I started passing by appearance within the first few months of T. I'm happy with my body, nothing to even really nitpick about. I don't think I'm easily clocked at all by my shape/ structure. I work out a lot because I enjoy it, and it wasn't hard to develop the masculine shape I desired. Mentally, T was an overall positive for my health.

The issue is that my voice was very high to begin with, one of those girly girl voices. It barely dropped at all and it's embarrassing. For years, I ignored it because everything else was going so well with transition.

But I'm like a muscle man with a girl voice. My voice totally doesn't match my figure. Maybe if I was a little more femme it would come off more like I'm just a slim little queer dude, but I feel like my body totally is totally mismatched by my voice. I feel goofy even speaking.

I feel even more goofy trying to intentionally drop my speaking range. But I'm starting to lose hope. My voice is so mismatched that people turn and look my way if I speak because here's this regular ass dude who talks like a mouse.

Is there any surgery, any other options I might be able to look into?

Adopted dog walking troubles

Hello,

I adopted a dog a month ago. She is seeming to have settled in at home, but the problem is on walks/hikes. She was in a foster home with a woman for two weeks before I got her, and she was in the shelter for two months before that. I have no idea what her life was like prior to her surrender to the shelter when she was about 6 months old.

She is now 9 months old and she doesn't want to hike with me. It takes me forever to get her to start, she just stands around at the trailhead and looks around like she is waiting for someone else.

The worst of the issue if there is a woman coming up hiking behind me on the trail. She will lay down in the middle of the trail and wait, refusing to move. Then as soon as the woman passes, she will get up and excitedly follow, like she wants to go home with the woman instead. Especially any young woman hiking alone. I have had to turn around early on trails because I can't just go around following behind women who she wants to follow. It's rude and borderline frightening, so I'll just have to pick a different direction if it happens. It's very frustrating and I certainly don't want to be intimidating someone else because my dog wants to follow *them* and not me.

But there are always people on the trails and I can't always go a different route every time I encounter a person.

I keep a packet of small pieces of high value dog treats but she will only take a few steps until the treat and then sit down in the middle of the trail again.

She is a high energy herding breed and needs exercised; and once she gets going she does fine for a few miles. We keep it short as she is still young.

This behavior is not from getting tired or anything, in fact this behavior is worst at the start of the hike. She will also jump and try to break out of her harness for any woman going the opposite way along the trail.

What can I do to encourage her to stay with me and trot at an appropriate and consistent pace without trying to chase/follow/wait for other people, especially women?

Grand Mesa 50 mi

Hi ultra people!

I am racing the Grand Mesa 50 miler on July 25. I know my training has been successful and I'm in the taper phase now, so I'm just trying to contain my excitement and make sure to reduce mileage appropriately and stay focused on good nutrition up until the race.

Has anyone raced the Grand Mesa 50 before and have any race-specific tips?

Also I am planning to camp at the start line the night before as this was indicated as a valid option on the website. Any suggestions about the camping situation? I won't have a vehicle as I'll be dropped off the afternoon/evening before the race, so I would like to minimize the distance I need to travel on foot to the start line.

Yikes, I'm starting to feel anxious about the distance! I know I've put the training in but it's just so far! 😬
