Is this safe?
I’m a young girl. Teen. Just got my first toy off of Adam Eve on a budget, I thought they were a reputable company (?), very popular and I heard they had discreet packaging. I’m not big on the idea of blowing big bucks on sex toys, lube, or anything of the like, especially not at my age. It’s just not attainable. Don’t have many secure places to even hide stuff like this.
Adam Eve was the first thing that came up when I searched cheap dildo, don’t judge, and I looked at it. Boom. Big sale of dildos. This was one of them. I knew it wasn’t one of Adam Eve’s actual production. But all the reviews on this toy were fine.
No one seemed particularly concerned about the material, nor had I known TPE wasn’t considered body-safe because… why would they make a dildo out of it if it’s not body safe?
Only, one problem. I was looking for safe lubes online and then my eye caught on “TPE”. And I was like, well let me check if mine is— it just arrived today.
And, yeah. On the packaging it does say it’s TPE. Specifically, on the website, phalate-free TPE. It says, “Non-porous material cleans up easily for backdoor play…Phalate-free TPE.”
And additionally, it says on the website— explicitly and bullet pointed, “use with water-based or silicone-based lube.”
I thought silicone-based lube was a big no-no for any and all dildos. And… from what I’ve looked at, TPE is porous and that’s the reason it’s not recommended for sex toys because it traps bacteria.
It says it’s by RealRock, Realistic Dildo With Balls and Suction Cup. 4.5 stars on the website.
Don’t have actual lube nor would this be attainable easily whatsoever, I’m not sure where to get cheap actual toy cleaner.
And now I have a predicament regarding a dildo to hide and it’s not like I can exactly return this. It wasn’t necessarily cheap either. Should I just bite the bullet and throw it away? Is usage okay? Is any of this branding reputable?
Is this a serious problem? What should I even do about this?
TLDR: bought my first dildo, can’t blow a bunch of money buying new one nor is returning it applicable. Made out of “phalate-free” TPE, from Adam Eve, is this safe? What should I do if it isn’t?
