Greenwood Wildlife Management question

Greenwood Wildlife Management question

Does anyone know, or have an educated guess about, these open spaces in the Greenwood Wildlife Management area? I thought they were abandoned cranberry bogs, but was there today and they didn't match my expectation. I think of bogs as very level open spaces that are kind of like big bathtubs. These fields were not very level, and had only a few higher elevation borders. Maybe this is what bogs look like after years of neglect?

Ack! Moose!

I'm not usually a fretful driver, but ...

I'll be flying to St John's in July, arriving around 5:15. By the time I disembark and get to my rental car it'll likely be 6:00. I have a hotel booked in Clarenville, so should arrive there at 8:15 or so. That is, arrival will be at dusk/sunset.

My question/concern: where I live in Pennsylvania that time of day is prime for smooshing deer. Is it the danger similar in NL with moose? I was in NL a couple of years ago and only saw them during the day on the Trans Canada from Terra Nova and farther west.

I always drive cautiously, especially in low light conditions, but have to admit I'm a little twitchy thinking about the drive to Clarenville (I'm doing it, rather than staying in St John's, because I want an early start on the Skerwink Trail the next day. I'm willing to overnight in St John's and get a really early start the next day, but would greatly prefer to be starting from Clarenville. ).

Is my fretting valid, unnecessary, ...?

Thanks for your input. I'm greatly looking forward to seeing your gorgeous province again!!
