How about that storm!☔️
That was some show here near Mt Holly!
That was some show here near Mt Holly!
like it’s so boring and flat, at least we have culture and things to do
what is y’all’s favorite thing about south jersey and your least favorite thing about Delaware, i’ll start
my favorite thing about south jersey is the Pines and my least favorite thing about Delaware is their infrastructure and how people drive like total morons. THATS THE OTHER THING TOO people act like we’re soooo bad at driving, um have you seen how people drive around the Christiana mall?? or godforbid Dupont Parkway?? it’s insane.
anyways rant over, just got home from Delaware so the opinions are fresh on my mind lol
✌️hope everyone’s doing ok !!
It passed the state senate recently. Good news for South Jersey, as we don't get personalized prices at the grocery store which would have lead to varying differences depending on who is in the aisle, which can be baseline or more expensive.
Amazon is due to take over the AC Racetrack to build a giant distribution warehouse.
The Township of Hamilton is due to vote on this PILOT deal tomorrow at 630pm .
The township is under the impression that corporate welfare is okay. No wonder Bezos is so rich.
In this agreement, Amazon will only have to pay Hamilton Township an average of $2.3 million a year in lieu of property tax. Average, meaning the first few years they pay nothing but the $50,000 the land is assessed at now.
So, 29 years of not paying property tax, is 29 years of not paying for schools, and 29 years of not paying to Atlantic County. And 29 years of not paying the full amount of property tax on the improvements.
If this alarms you, please show up at this meeting in Mays Landing at 630 pm to make your voice heard.
Just say NO to corporate welfare.
yeah i know he aint gonna see this, just want to vent a bit, be careful around pickup truckers, they are a hazard to your safety. not much damage, just need to replace the back cover of the mirror. Stay safe out there guys, drivers today were absolutely terrible coming home.
Me again!
Going to NYC to watch a concert on the 8th (Madison square garden). Concert starts at 7pm and not sure when it'll end. Maybe a bit after 10?
Anyway, its my first solo train trip so I know going to NYC I'll drive to the Hamilton Station and board to NYC (Penn Station I think?)
Any idea on the last train times going back to Hamilton Station and what train do I take (Newark?) I remember going with my sis that it showed up on the screen and everyone was rushing to the gate so I didn't have time to process or remember how to read it. And I highly doubt I'll be able to ask for help with the surging crowd. There are lots of apps for the trains/subways that Im still learning so I'd like to know which is best.
It's also a Wednesday that day, and I'm trying to save costs as a roundtrip is already $40. Would it be alright to catch the train mid day (so I could at least go into work in the morning) or should I go early in the morning? We've always gone early in the morning so not sure if the crowds are different.
Ideally looking for a cafe/coffee shop as well nearby where I can just chill till the concert or anything free lol. As much as I wanna hop around and explore, I'm on a very tight budget. At most I'd like to just get photos taken at a photobooth and coffee. Ty!!
I called my local animal control they won’t help. I called popcorn park, yes after hours so no answer. I was directed to a different organization in Toms River but they’re closed. Is there anywhere open no that can take him in?
EDIT/UPDATE: I gave the chick some water and kept him out of the direct sunlight. He got a jolt of energy once he got some water. I put him back outside in the grass near the tree he probably fell out of. I saw him still there but flapping his wings. But now I’m wondering if I should bring him back in if it storms and he’s still out there.
Anyone have experience with buying a retractable awning? Looking for a fairly large one to cover my deck which faces South.
Looking for any good places to get quotes from, installers, recommendations, etc.
Burlington County.
Thanks.
Michael Tyrrell behind the camera doing an impromptu book cover reveal for My Daily Piney: Heartfelt Stories Rooted in the Pines Fall & Winter Editions. This book completes the 2-book series and is one of our best yet! Michael created the whimsical Sage on the cover and has two pieces of art (Sandhills cranes & Turkey vulture) contained with in the flip book. It’s a daily reader series that requires you to flip the book upside down to read the second portion of the book or the next season of stories. All inspired by time spent in the NJ Pine Barrens. Thank you Michael Tyrrell for helping this project become more than just a stack of paper pages. It comes out officially September 1st.
It was on fire for a while and this was their attempt for a grand finale. They tried in these CRAZY winds
On the focsle of the Battleship NJ Was behind a few young girls about age 8 chanting/shouting U.S.A. during the fireworks at the start. An absolute beefcake of a security volunteer (he had security on his T) also helped in the chant.
We were seeing lightning as a background to the fireworks. It was stunning.
Rain started. They went to finale in rapid pace. My understanding was that it was supposed to be 45 min displace now cut to 25-30 min. Such is life.
Background, why this was hyper magical for me: I had bought 3 tickets fer the battleship about a month ago. I had two friends who had expressed plenty of interest in being there with me. Both canceled this week. So I put the tickets up for grabs here and found a couple what wanted them. The fangs of fate smiled upon us and we missed each other as though we lived in a different dimension. The very fine folks curating the battleship gave them passes and I eventually gave my spare tickets way to a a young couple who did not understand at first how they could be given these for free.
It all worked out.
I came home soaked as though i had taken a shower in my clothes, a completely destroyed umbrella and a cell phone which luckily survived all of the wetness.
Final review: The live music on the ship was great, seeing and feeling the storm come in was amazing, but i think the best view is dockside, line of sight of the barge and hearing the music accompaniment. But the youths and the crowd joining in the chant of U.S.A. owns my heart.
On Independence Day, as the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service is also marking its 120th anniversary.
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service was established on July 4, 1906, through an act of the state Legislature signed into law by Governor Edward C. Stokes.
Theophilus Price of Tuckerton was appointed as the state's first forest firewarden, and a township firewarden system was established with 64 firewardens appointed during its first year.
Today, 120 years later, the Forest Fire Service continues its mission to protect lives, property and New Jersey's natural resources.
Hi friends! My dad and I used to frequent this British fish and chips restaurant in the countryside. (Looking back, it might have been in Cumberland, Salem, or even Medford.) I distinctly remember it being situated in the middle of nowhere, and they served their fish and chips wrapped in newspaper. It was truly authentic. If anyone knows of this place, please share it with me! I’m afraid it might be lost to history but I figured I’d ask Reddit.
I heard a few people do thme and went outside. Its reall winddy and the few that i saw were all moving to the right. I guess pitman probabaly caneled as well as other shows. the wind is really strong.
First off, let me commend the decision makers there for trying to see it through and not canceling at the first threat of lightning.
However, I dont think anyone even attempted to factor in the shift in winds caused by the passing storm and the effect it would have on the safety and containment zones when they decided to continue as planned.
The crowd was literally showered in ash and ember, getting progressively worse as the show went on. Anyone paying attention could see how the smome shifted mid show and could see the embers falling into the occupied parking lot.
Still, they continued to complete the entire run. It was, to their credit, an impressive display. At least the parts of it I managed to see, as a piece of something landed in my eye halfway through, causing intense burning and stinging to the point i had to flush my eyes and could no longer watch. I still have discomfort this morning, as if something is scratching my eye.
Got this over a month ago and has been pretty fun
