Tell these local politicians to Cancel the Flock Contracts or they won't get your vote in November. (Glassboro and Washington Township, Gloucester County)

They voted to approve the Flock Cameras. They are up for re-election in November. Now's the time to get commitments out of them.

I found documents that indicate that Washington Township is paying for Flock Cameras with National Opioid Settlement Funds. Other towns are also making questionable purchases with the funds earmarked for addiction services and treatment.

How many of ya'll can name the mayor of your town?

For most of my adult life, I probably wouldn't have been able to. I've been doing a lot more digging recently, but I'm curious how many of ya'll know who runs your town?

Liscio’s used chatGPT to make this sign on their front door and didn’t even bother hiding it.

If they have the $$$ to advertise at Citizens Bank Park, they can pay a graphic designer.

I’ve been a fan of Liscio’s for a long time, and I get that they’re basically a big corporation now (“Big Bun”). But this was still pretty frustrating to see on their door. They printed the sign straight from Gmail, ChatGPT filename and all. You can literally see “ChatGPT Image Jul 4, 2026” at the top and the Gmail search URL at the bottom.

Not surprising, but still disappointing.

"Atlantic City" | Cristina Vane, Hannah Juanita & Brennen Leigh

The video's a year old, but I just found this great cover of "Atlantic City" by the Band, performed by Cristina Vane, Hannah Juanita & Brennen Leigh. I'm very familiar with The Band, but had never heard this song. Amazing performance that I thought would be appreciated here.

$2.5 million in funding for local news outlets removed from 2027 NJ Budget - Call Legislators before June 30th

On April 9, 2026, New Jersey officially declared "Local News Day" to celebrate how vital community journalism is for keeping residents connected. Yet just a few months later, the state's proposed budget completely eliminates funding for the New Jersey Civic Information Consortium (NJCIC). Talk about a contradiction. If local news is important enough for politicians to celebrate, it should be important enough for them to help fund local news deserts.

The NJCIC was created in 2018 as a first-of-its-kind effort to strengthen local news and information across New Jersey. Since launching its grant program in 2021, it has invested more than $12 million in local journalism projects that have reached one in four New Jersey households.

This work is especially important in South Jersey, where many communities are considered news deserts and lack dedicated local news coverage. Programs like NJCIC help support reporting that keeps residents informed about local government, schools, public safety, community events, and the issues that directly affect their daily lives.

This same thing happened last year. The NJCIC's budget was left off the 2026 budget proposal, and then it was restored prior to finalization of the budget. We must urge legislators to save funding for this organization once again!

We are asking state leaders to restore $2.5 million in funding for NJCIC in the FY2027 budget. Supporters can reference Senate Budget Resolution 453 and Assembly Budget Resolutions 964 and 967 when contacting elected officials.

If local news matters to you, now is the time to speak up. Contact your state legislators and ask them to restore NJCIC funding.

-------------------

It's my understanding that the following legislators have the most impact over whether funding for the NJCIC will be included in the budget. Contact these officials negotiating the final budget and ask them to restore NJCIC funding before June 30:

Governor Mikie Sherrill

(609) 292-6000

https://www.nj.gov/governor/contact/

Senate President Nicholas Scutari

(732) 827-7480

SenScutari@njleg.org

Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin

(732) 855-7441

AsmCoughlin@njleg.org

Senate Budget Chair Paul Sarlo

(201) 804-8118

SenSarlo@njleg.org

Assembly Budget Chair Eliana Pintor Marin

(973) 589-0713

AswPintorMarin@njleg.org

Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald

(856) 435-1247

AsmGreenwald@njleg.org

Please be respectful and concise. Let them know why independent local journalism and civic information matter to your community. Reference Senate Budget Resolution 453 and Assembly Budget Resolutions 964 and 967 when contacting elected officials.

I'm a fan of Twin Kiss in Clayton, but can we talk about the name?

Twin Kiss is my favorite local ice cream shop, but can we talk about the name? I know that siblings might give kisses when they're young, but what is the relation to ice cream? A relic from a different time, I guess. Always made me wonder!

P.S. More ice cream shops should have playgrounds for kids. I love this spot! I wish they sold t-shirts!

The complex life of Charles K. Landis (founder and developer of Vineland and Sea Isle City)

From the Cumberland County Historical Society's facebook page.

Charles K Landis entered law school at 15 and started his own practice at 19. However, Landis soon realized that he wanted to work in real estate.

He began his real estate career with the development of Vineland in 1861 with the dream of creating a utopian society. Landis purchased 22,000 acres from Richard D. Wood, and eventually bought more until he owned 32,000 acres. He brought in German immigrants and black residents to help set up Vineland and paid them a dollar a day. Landis advertised for people to come to Vineland across the country and in Europe. People quickly settled Vineland and remained tavern free and driven by industry.

Landis ended up marrying the daughter of Captain Richard Meade, Clara F. Meade in 1868. Their marriage lasted eight years, and their firstborn son, Henry Miegs Landis, died at a young age. They also had three other children Charles Kline Landis, born 1871, Richard Worsen Meade Landis, born 1873, and James Montivert Waterbury Meade Landis, born 1875.

By 1875, Landis had his sons, his wife, and a blossoming town with 20 schools, multiple post offices, and connection to the railways.

Beyond his real estate business, he faced backlash from the editor and publisher of The Vineland Independent, Uri Carruth. Carruth published that Landis wanted to commit his wife Clara to an insane asylum. Landis walked into Carruth’s office with the news article in his hand and shot Carruth in the head on March 18.

Carruth did not die immediately from his injury, but rather experienced blindness and constant pain until he passed away seven months later due to abscess surrounding the wound.

Landis’ murder trial was held in Bridgeton and was a major spectacle for the time. The jury found Landis not guilty by reason of insanity following the testimonies of his employees, doctor, and sheriff who detailed his erratic and uncommon behavior leading up to the shooting.

Clara and Charles divorced and his sister Matilda Landis would go on to raise his sons, and Clara married a German nobleman.

Following the trial, Landis set his sights on a new real estate opportunity on Ludlam Island in 1879, now called Sea Isle City.

Charles K. Landis died in 1900 and in his will left his estate to his sister Matilda.
