Olympus F280 flash for OM-4T/Ti - Any commonly known failures? Repairable?

Stock photo of an F280 flash

I just received an Olympus F280 flash that when switched on made increasingly louder clicking noises (expanding components?) and quickly heated up the four AA cells. No flash. The eBay seller refunded and told me not to bother returning the flash.

Do F280 flashes have a reputation for these symptoms? Are they repairable, and who's doing repairs?

Zeiss Ikon Continamatic IIa and IIIa restoration

My entry into camera repair starts with the relatively simple Zeiss Ikon fixed lens Continamatic IIa and IIIa. I have four, and started my foray into their innards with the IIa that has a 1/500 shutter (most seem to be 1/300). It had a jammed film advance and shutter, with evidence of a drop.

My intent is to have one IIIa with 1/500 restored for use.

I'm looking for Zeiss Ikon's Contina service manual 1957 supplement that covers the Continamatic IIa and IIIa (that have the integrated exposure meter). If anyone can help, please contact me.
