[TOMT][TV Show][Pre-2010’s] Ancient Greek Mythology (cartoon retelling)
Hey ya’ll, I was reminded by a retelling of the story of Perseus in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I distinctly remember in fifth grade (around 2007-2008) that after school, my teacher would put on this cartoon about ancient Greek mythology. This wasn’t a cartoon *based* on the myths. This was an educational series *depicting* the myths directly.
I remember the style was semi-realistic, with thick black lines outlining the characters. All the people looked completely human, with normal proportions. The story was told through voice-over; I can’t remember if there was other voice acting. The animation was almost like an animatic, in that there was movement, but only a few frames of it.
The scene that brought this memory back up was the scene where Perseus kills his grandfather. I specifically remember him throwing the discus at the games, then a shot of the king getting struck in the head and slumping down in his throne. It’s a very distinct scene for me, since that was a slight shock to see as a ten year old at school.
Other myths covered included Jason and the Argonauts, Narcissus, the titans and the gods’ origins, and the war of Troy. (There was a specific scene showing Achilles’ mother dipping him in the Styx by his ankle as an infant.)
Does anybody know what I mean?
Editing to add; this show was on some sort of dvd, I think. This was in a public school in Northern Illinois in the US. My teacher may have gotten the series from the library.
