Human emotions

Do you find that your dedication to God protects you from a lot of the human emotions that we laity feel? For example, do you find that your faith and service keeps you from getting anxious because you trust Him more? Or that you mourn death less because you feel more secure in the afterlife? (Just as examples.)

So Boring!

I had the hardest time finishing Three’s a Crowd, but I was determined. It was supposed to be a romantic comedy, but we barely ever saw Vicki. She’d be there in the beginning and the end, and otherwise out flying somewhere. We never got to know her to be invested. If anything, Jack and Vicki’s father had more chemistry. They tried to make the show a vehicle for John’s slapstick, but it only proved that the girls were costars of Threes Company, not second-level stars.

Empty nesting

I am coming close to becoming an empty nester, and I feel that my purpose in life is ending. I will be 50 when my only daughter goes to college. I have had a successful career, but my life has for the last 18 years revolved around motherhood. Those of y’all who have done this already and based your identities on being moms, how did you redefine purpose?

Shout out to Matt Hobby

I’m glad they kept Matt Hobby around. Whatever your opinion of Pastor Jeff, Matt does a great job of portraying an Evangelical pastor.

Sharon Wyatt on Three’s a Crowd!

Well, this just made me enjoy watching Threes a Crowd, the chance to see Sharon Wyatt (Tiffany Hill on General Hospital). She’s as charming, as beautiful, and as conniving as ever!

Do you ever learn from laity?

Have you ever had a circumstance when talking to laity, you see a scriptural passage or a faith topic differently than you had before?

Sexual Harassment

Wow! I never realized as a kid how powerful this episode was by turning sexual harassment around on a guy. The idea that a guy was dressing provocatively and thereby asking for it! It was a really clever way to show what women have to put up with. (Of course nobody, male or female, should endure that treatment.) It’s also amazing to me how recently sexual harassment became illegal.

When did cohabitation become normal?

The whole premise of Three’s a Crowd is that Jack wants to marry but Vicki doesn’t, and they live together instead, causing scandal. Did people in 1984, outside of ultra religious folks, really find premarital cohabitation a sin? I was just a kid then, so I’m really asking.

Do you think it was uncomfortable for Suzanne to play this role considering that her husband was married when she first started going out with him? She was a superb actress, and you certainly can’t detect it if she was.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. Why are we here on earth? There are 8 billion people on earth. We know so few and touch even fewer. And in a hundred years, likely nobody will even remember us. Considering how insignificant we each are in the grand scheme of things, why did God put us here?
