In Mourning

My first corm loss and taking it hard :(. Had this dragon's breath corm and was doing so well in perlite but I had to move it due to it hitting the lid roof. Moved it to moss and leca earlier than I would have liked and it ended up rotting beyond repair :(

I got cocky because I had to do.this for my amazonica and it ended up thriving.

Currently in Stage 1 denial of the grief reaction 😂

I think were I went wrong was I had a pre prepared set up and maybe the moss was too damp or compacted and it lead to rot?

Growth from Corms appreciation post

Have really taken into growing Alocasia from corms I've bought off eBay/from parents I own myself. Have found it really fun and rewarding and has made my obsession a lot more. I usually start in perlite with a heat mat and sealed tupperware wear for max humidity and heat. From.beginning to now have found the humidity and heat mat have made the roots prior to leaf emerging be crazy

Ones shown in the photos are in order;

Cuprea

Silver Dragonscale (gave me three growth points!)

Silver Dragonscale

Jacklyn

Dragsonbreath

Amazonica

Tiny Dancer (bought from store on reduced but infested with thrips so cut it down to regrow from a corm)

Yucantan princess

Anyone else wanna post their corm growths for an appreciation post? :')

What's everyone's prop methods?

Repot?

I'm having to water every 3 days at the moment but I swear I only reported this 3-4 wks ago. Albeit I did the same pot size as I had just bought it and wanted to do a soil change but this seems a bit insane

Got to love perlite in a tupperware for corms 💚

Alocasia Amazonica corm. Usually prefer to wait for a fully unfurled leave but have unfortunately had to move it early to a leca moss setup as the cataphyll is pretty much touching the ceiling of the container...

Anyone else's frydek angle down a bit?

Had this frydek for around 4-5 weeks now and it's been doing really well, it's in a north-east facing window and gets a good amount of light from early morning until around 3pm it starts to die down a bit.

I usually let it dry out until it's just about to be dry and then water with some diluted fertiliser. The two droopy leaves I think are on their way out because it's pushed out 4 leaves since I got it.

Its in a mix of 2 x Coco coir, 1 X worm casting, 2 x Perlite, 2 x pumice, 3 X bark and 1 X leca and is in an orchid style nursery pot with a central aeration spike.

I don't really mind that it droops down a bit as it keeps spouting out leaves, unsure if it's the weight of the leaves but anyone else's do this?

Routine Exam (i.e. not a DRE) - Glove or No Glove

Noticed more and more people are putting on gloves for every kind patient interaction no matter how benign (e.g. chest / CVS / abdominal exam / even a pulse check). I can understand the odd outlier depending on Derm infection risk but I think we've become very glove happy post COVID and happy to keep on ruining the environment. I think if routine stuff just wash your hands before and after (which you would be doing with or without gloves anyways). Thoughts?
