The only office chair that was kind to my back is losing its skin. Anyone have some DIY suggestions? It doesn't have to look nice, just want to keep it together. THANKS!

I'm willing to simply tape it, but thought it might be a better idea to ask folks who know a thing or two about this stuff. Any help will be appreciated, and I was going to say something witty like 'stuff it' but I'll just go away now and await folks coming toward me with big scary scissors;)

Hakeem Jeffries needs to either step aside or be voted out. ALL democratic Congresspeople should be put on notice-- PLEDGE NO MORE AIPAC FUNDS.

Jefferies just doesn’t get it. He seems almost as out of touch with what’s happening to ordinary Americans as some of his GOP counterparts. It’s disgraceful watching establishment politicians cling to the same tired ideology and protect the status quo while the people they supposedly represent are left behind.

This isn’t really about Democrats versus Republicans anymore. It’s about an entrenched political establishment that has become far too comfortable with its own power, money, and status. Schumer has shown himself to be weak and ineffective, and too many others have demonstrated that they are more interested in preserving the system than changing it.

I’m tired of the excuses, the political theater, and the revolving door of establishment leadership. We need new people, new ideas, and representatives who remember that Congress belongs to the people—not to party leadership, wealthy donors, lobbyists, or special interests.

The rot is bipartisan. The answer should be bipartisan, too: clean house and take the people’s House back.

Kids cover 46 and 2 (O'Keefe Music Foundation)

I was talking to a friend the other day and we were just going through music videos when this popped up--I had seen it several times, but he never had. I thought everyone had at this point, but if you are a Tool fan, and you've never seen this, well, all I can say is hang on to your seat.

OKeefe Foundation - Keine Lust [Heavy Metal] [2025]

The O'Keefe Foundation, based in the mid-west, lets the kids pick the kind of music they want to play. Whether you like heavy metal in German or not, if you appreciate real talent and passion, this will put a smile on your face. Mods, sorry if this doesn't fit here, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

If you really want to make a difference, Now is the time to start contacting those that are running for office. Time to put your money, voice, and a little effort where your mouth is. Cut/paste below to every D and I running this year in any office. DEMAND don't ASK

This midterm is not ordinary. It is existential in a way no midterm in recent memory has been. Our country is being damaged in real time under Donald Trump, the Republican Party that enables him, and the oligarchs who profit from the wreckage. That is not partisan rhetoric. It is the moral reality of this moment.

We need candidates who will say so—publicly, loudly, and without calculation. We need to make it clear to those running even in the most red states this applies to them to. Either stand up or you'll vote for someone else or not vote at all. In red states, that's a real threat--use it.

Reach out now to every Democrat and Independent running for office. Call them. Email them. Confront them at events. Democracy takes a bit of effort, and while I know a lot of us have been working on this for years, many are just finding the courage to stand up and speak out. Post it where they and their staffs cannot ignore it. Deliver this message clearly:

Your party label will not elect you by itself. We are looking for leadership with a moral compass, not more careful operators who discover caution the moment the votes are counted. History shows that most politicians lose their spine after they win, not before. We will not reward that pattern.

There is a moral crisis underway. It demands a public voice against what has been done to this country. If you cannot muster the courage to stand up, look the country in the eye, and declare that what is happening under this administration is wrong—and say it hard enough for everyone to hear—then you are not fit for the office in these times.

Silence or hedging is not neutrality. It is complicity. We will not support candidates who refuse to display their outrage directly and publicly. We will not trust them to do the job once in office. We will not give them our votes, our time, or our energy. Stand up. Tell the world this is wrong. Or do not expect us at the ballot box. No public courage, no support. The times demand fighters. Prove you are one.

Not to be outdone, his opponent came out against higher taxes.

Everyone is jumping on the data centers--not literally of course, most are highly secured and all jumping on them would do is likely give you a good dose of electromagnetic radiation, but I digress.

The reactionary efforts by state and local officials across the country have ranged everywhere from lets make a back-room deal and put a few of them down where the black folks live, to no way no how will that ever see the light of day in my city/county/state! Seems as though we'll eventually need to find some middle ground here. I heard the governor of Georgia a few weeks ago talking about this. He's pro-data center, but with a plan. To whit: He's ok with data center development as long as they either a: build their own powerplant on site, or b) pay double per k/hr for their electric. His reasoning is that this would protect citizens from higher grid costs while continuing to bring in the state needed revenue.

Lexington has the opportunity to deal with this developing concern smartly. Anyone else have thoughts?

Andy Barr supports the removal of these subsidies, while he favors more tax breaks for the rich. This, right here, is what institutional violence looks like in practice.

U.S. Representative Andy Barr does not support broad government price controls or direct federal subsidy expansions for prescription drugs like those in the Inflation Reduction Act, aligning with standard Republican opposition to government-managed healthcare market interventions. In addition, Barr has consistently opposed legislation that implements government price controls or mandates price negotiation frameworks for pharmaceuticals. He generally votes against expanding broad federal healthcare and insurance subsidies, such as extended Affordable Care Act tax credits, characterizing them as fiscally irresponsible programs that expand government intervention. Those are Barr's positions on healthcare and how he's voted in the past.

How is this violence you may ask? Because the policy itself is what does the dirty work. No one is getting physically assaulted directly, it's through the small knife cuts of having to stop taking a needed medication because it's suddenly now twice as expensive.

Institutional violence like Andy Barr supports can be found in the Medicaid cuts that silently removed care for low income disabled children throughout out state. Institutional violence like he supports comes in the form of rural hospitals being de-funded out of existence, or the lack of disaster relief from this administration that Barr supports. Those are tangible, real harm to our citizens. Kentucky deserves better than to keep electing and re-electing politicians that harm us individually and collectively.

UK Healthcare external patient phone support has gone from bad to worse.

While I appreciate the care I receive at UK, I've gotten increasingly frustrated with my healthcare system's decision to outsource patient phone support to what feels like a generic call center. I know they all do some version of this, (and to UK's credit they use real associates not AI bots) but their representatives have no medical backgrounds (you are generally talking to someone in their house or apartment working from home) and this is a problem. I've had representatives give information that comes dangerously close to medical advice—and its been wrong. For example, I was told I could get blood work anytime after seeing my doctor, even though the labs were supposed to be done beforehand. That's the kind of misinformation that can delay care or waste appointments.

This has happened multiple times, and it makes me wonder how many other patients are getting incorrect information. If you're the front door to a healthcare system, you need staff who are properly trained to answer questions safely or know when to say, "I don't know—let me connect you with someone who does."

Outsourcing patient communication may save money, but if it's leading to misinformation that affects patient care, it's hurting the quality of healthcare people receive.

3rd "wake-up" batch of Kefir water from wet grain starter in the mail. Need advice (see below)

House is a steady 75ish degrees. Started first batch out of the jar with one cup mineral water and 1 tbsp sugar, after 24 hours it seemed to have been quite active so I transferred it to 2 cups 24 hours later, then 3 cups this morning (just finished the strain/transfer for the third wake up batch shown above. My questions: Does this look alright? Also, how much more will they grow before I can start using the strained water for the bottled second ferment? Thanks in advance!

Someone in our neighborhood is going door to door offering 'free' video doorbells...whether a gimmick or not, a few things are worth considering.

Whether legitimate or not, here in Lexington, we're already subjected to heightened community surveillance through the FLOCK camera system. Additionally, many people already have RING cameras on their doors and in some cases even more sensitive areas. FLOCK offers a kind of persistent surveillance in that those that have access to the data can go back through time and discover what intersections you were at, what times, for quite some time in the past. What are your patterns? This is not some futuristic scheme to steal our privacy--it's here and it's doing exactly that. As are these doorbell cameras, but it's even worse in some respects.

Recently some cities and towns have removed FLOCK from their systems, because they were caught selling camera data and even access to cameras outside of the regulatory use framework. Now think about that same level of access and potential exploitation for doorbell cameras--cameras that can hear whatever is being said within earshot without anyone knowing they've been activated and listening...and who goes in and out...what times...it's all a record somewhere.

I bring this up in the context of that visit I got today. I'm not suggesting there is anything nefarious about the company per se (which I didn't get the name of and should have), But as a consumer getting this knock, and who may be left thinking "having a linked camera put on my front door that I can use as a video doorbell" is a win win, I would urge you to consider that same camera is actually linked into a broader system others have access to.

Anyone in Lexington or surrounding have a supply of kefir grains they could share some of to make Kefir water?

I was hoping someone out there may have a good strain and is willing to share. Thanks everyone!

In case you were like me and had no idea the BEST produce in town was a little ole Save-A-Lot on Winchester Road!

I found them by accident about a month ago and now I stop by nearly every day. I've heard that other Save-A-Lot's also have good produce, while other's don't. Anyway, the pictures don't lie, and mods if this runs afoul of the rules for some reason I'll understand.
