Looking for Hope
Hi everyone,
My mom has recently been diagnosed with recurrence again after her third line of therapy (Initially carbo/taxol, then carbo/doxil + PARPi maintenance, then carbo/gemcitibine/bevacizumab + bevacizumab maintenance). This marks the first time she has had platinum resistance, with recurrence after 3 months. She is BRCA1 positive but all of her other tumor markers have been negative.
Her oncologist recommended we started looking at clinical trials this time. While her CT scan does show evidence of progression because of peritoneal thickening, there unfortunately are no discrete measurable nodules or lymph nodes, so I don't think most of the trials are going to accept her because it doesn't meet the RECIST v1.1 criteria.
We always have the option of chemotherapy, but it seems like outcomes aren't great, and we would love to try to join a clinical trial. I have looked though clinicaltrials.gov but the majority of studies require measurable disease, and the few that don't seem like less promising phase 1 studies. Does anyone have experience with this scenario?
Alternatively, any hopeful stories of long-term survivors after platinum resistance in people without any targeted therapies available? Has anyone re-tried PARP inhibitors after a recurrence while on PARPi? Or any other non-traditional therapies?
Thank you all so much, and best of luck to everyone.
