Growing up, my brother (33M) and I (21F) were never super close. We weren’t constantly fighting or anything dramatic, but we definitely weren’t the type of siblings who shared everything or hung out much. I always assumed adulthood would mellow things out a little and we’d eventually have a more normal relationship.
But honestly, it still feels like he keeps me at a weird distance and I can’t tell if I’m overthinking it. I went over to his place recently after weeks of insisting and he had a female friend there. I joked how it must be a date but both didn't laugh, didn't even crack a smile. The vibe between them was oddly serious the entire time, like I had interrupted something important or private. My brother was polite. He only showed me the living room and the bathroom connected to it. That was it. Every other door upstairs looked closed and honestly seemed locked. He never offered to show me the rest of the place or even casually mention anything about it.
I know technically it’s his house and he doesn’t owe me a tour, but it just felt so strange? Like I was being contained to one approved section of the house while they acted weirdly guarded the entire time.
