Why are we paying inflated menu prices AND platform fees on Zomato?

I was about to order from Madras Majestic 1963 and decided to compare the prices on Zomato with the restaurant’s menu.
The difference isn’t just on one item—it’s across almost the entire menu.
Some examples:
Kunafa: ₹290 → ₹338.80
Turkish BBQ Mandi: ₹270 → ₹363
Honey Chilli BBQ Mandi: ₹240 → ₹363
Several other items are similarly marked up.
Then, on top of these already inflated menu prices, Zomato adds:
Platform fee
Delivery fee (if applicable)
GST on applicable charges
Packaging charges (where applicable)
By checkout, the final bill is easily ₹100–₹200+ higher than what the same food would cost if you ordered directly from the restaurant or picked it up yourself.
I understand restaurants may increase their online menu prices to recover commissions, and delivery platforms need to make money too. But as a customer, it feels like I’m paying for the same service multiple times—once through inflated menu prices and again through separate platform and delivery fees.
Is this becoming the norm now?
