Netherlands Returns 1,000-Year-Old Chola-Era Copper Plates To India

The Return of the Chola Copper Plates to India marks a major cultural restitution milestone for India. The Netherlands formally returned the 11th-century Chola-era copper plates, also known as the “Leiden Plates”, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the country in May 2026.

These copper plates date back to the reign of Rajaraja Chola I (985–1014 CE) and are considered among the most important surviving records of the Chola Empire. The collection contains 21 copper plates weighing around 30 kg, bound by a bronze ring carrying the royal Chola seal. The inscriptions are written in both Sanskrit and Tamil.

The plates were reportedly taken to the Netherlands in the 18th century by Dutch missionary and scholar Florentius Camper during the period when Nagapattinam was under Dutch control. They later became part of the collection at Leiden University. India had been seeking their return since 2012.

Prime Minister Modi called the return “a joyous moment for every Indian,” highlighting the broader effort to bring back culturally significant artefacts removed during colonial times.

Please Help Save My 6-Year-Old Sister Fighting Thalassemia Major

Hello Everyone,

On 2nd May 2026 My 6-year-old little sister Vishakha was diagnosed with Thalassemia Major in CMC, vellore.

We live in Vellore, and honestly, our family was never financially strong to begin with. My father’s all income goes to family needs and my and mine sister’s education Fees.

The treatment cost is nearly ₹16 lakhs, which is completely beyond what our family can afford.

I am her elder sister, 16 years old, and I just completed my 10th class. I want to help my little sister and support my family in any way I can, so I’m doing whatever possible by posting here and asking people for help.

Vishakha is only 6 years old. Seeing someone so small go through hospital visits and treatments is heartbreaking.

I’m posting this here with folded hands asking for help — whether it’s a donation, sharing this post, or guiding us toward organizations that help children with Thalassemia treatment.

Every small contribution matters to us right now.

If any proof, medical reports, hospital documents required I’m ready to share them.

Please help us give Vishakha a chance to live a healthy childhood.

Thank you for reading.

Hello Reddit Family,

I never thought I would have to write something like this, but today I have no other option.

My name is Bijoy Bhowmick, and I am currently completely bedridden, fighting severe knee arthritis and mobility loss for years.

I am reaching out here because many patients like me depend on advanced treatment and rehabilitation support available in cities like Delhi, and I am trying to gather the resources needed to access proper care and stand on my feet again.

Over the past few years, my condition has worsened significantly.

I have already undergone:

Right knee replacement surgery

Hip replacement surgery

But unfortunately, my mobility has not returned.

Now, doctors have advised that I urgently need a left knee replacement surgery to regain the ability to stand and walk again.

Along with the surgery, my treatment also requires:

• 💉 Biologic injections every 15 days

• 🧑‍⚕️ Intensive physiotherapy multiple times daily

These are essential for recovery, not optional.

Fundraiser Details:

Goal: ₹29,56,000

Raised so far: ₹1,17,895

Still Needed: ₹28,38,105

Total Donors: 104

Unfortunately, the total cost of my treatment and recovery is far beyond what my family can afford.

My brother is the only earning member, working as a salesperson, and he also supports our elderly parents. Despite our best efforts, arranging such a large amount is simply not possible for us.

🙏 Even a small contribution or simply sharing this post can make a huge difference.

Your support can help me get the treatment I urgently need and give me a chance to walk again.

❤️ Please consider donating or sharing:
