Asking parents to baby proof their house for when we visit??

My parents live out of state, and we came to visit them for the first time since having my baby. She is 6 months old, and I’m realizing the house is NOT baby friendly. My parents have a 4 bedroom house. One of them is their room and one other is a guest room but they use it as their storage room so there is not a ton of room for us when we come to stay. The other bedroom is a home gym and the last one is full of fish tanks with a small desk for an office. They have a smallish living room that is entirely taken over by a pool table. They have a very untrained dog who is very interested in the baby and seems like he could definitely accidentally hurt the baby. He actually keeps trying to jump when I’m holding her to grab her foot playfully but it makes me very nervous.

I don’t feel comfortable putting her down anywhere and the solution to this was to put a mat down in the gym and move some equipment to the side temporarily. I guess this is fine now because she’s not very mobile, but we are coming back in 3 months. She will most likely be crawling at that point. My mom keeps asking me “well tell me what I need to do” because I have made it pretty clear that this trip has NOT been easy with how chaotic everything is. I asked them to clean up the room a bit and to work on training the dog a bit more. But I don’t even know how to go about having the baby in the house otherwise. It’s not fair for us to be locked up in their gym just so the baby can play. What do I do or even ask for?

Feeling self conscious

My baby is 5 months old and I’ve been trying to get out of the house more. There’s a mom walking group that I went to the other day, and I’m realizing because I’m in public more with her lately because she’s a little older that I’m feeling embarrassed when I have to pull out formula. I know there is nothing to be embarrassed about, but every time I pull it out, I feel like I failed my baby by not breastfeeding. I know it’s inevitable to come across one of those judgy moms, but they truly don’t even know what I went through. I had so many crazy health complications after my pregnancy (postpartum preeclampsia, an infection on my c-section, and then gallstones which then resulted me needing an emergency gallbladder removal 1 month postpartum) that my milk dried up and then I was on medications that I wasn’t allowed to breastfeed my baby for a bit with. So breastfeeding became next to impossible. I know if I just did it by choice without the complications, that’s also okay too because if a baby is getting, fed that is what’s best. I just can’t help feeling guilty lately though.

Travel advice with a baby

I will be flying with my baby for the first time and I’m very nervous about it. We are going in August and she will be 6 months old. I’m very nervous about packing and making sure I have everything for her. We are going to visit my parents, so I’m planning on buying some of the larger items to keep at their house since we will be going a couple times a year at least. Is this reasonable? I’m also trying to figure out what I should buy to keep there and what I should just bring.

I also wanted to know what people would recommend about sleeping. We have a Graco pack and play but I honestly think it would just be easier to buy something to keep at their house. They don’t have room for a regular permanent crib, so we would need something that collapses. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would ideally like something she won’t grow out of extremely quick.

I am a FTM to a 10 week old. I was exclusively pumping for a while because she never latched well and I then had complications which led me to have a huge tank in my supply. I recently decided to stop trying for my own mental health. Right now my baby is eating 5oz every 4 hours. At night often we have to wake her at the 5 hour mark. We were told to wake her because she is still small since she was born at 37 weeks. I guess I’m just nervous about the amounts. She seems like she is eating so much for her age and I was wondering what other babies her age were doing.

I also had a question about bottles. For one thing, she seems to eat extremely slow. She’s on a 1 for the nipple size on the Dr brown bottles. Sometimes it takes 35-45 minutes to finish a bottle. Other times she finishes it around 20 minutes. She always seemed to eat extremely slow since she was born. Also, she does this thing occasionally when we are feeding her she will start to cry as if she is mad the bottle is not in her mouth. We will start try to move the bottle around in her mouth and she will start eating again and then only a few seconds later get upset again. I can’t figure out if this is gas pain when this is happening or if it’s just a frustration that she has to work to eat. I try Mylicon when this happens and only sometimes does it work. I’m questioning everything and am wondering if I should try a different bottle.
