Fort Worth Ice Rink

I’m trying to gauge interest in a community ice rink/ multisport facility in Fort Worth.

Fort Worth and the surrounding area are pretty underserved when it comes to year-round ice access, and I want to see whether there’s real support for a local place where kids, families, skaters, and hockey players could actually use it. I made a short form to collect feedback and see what people would want from a facility like this.

If this is something you’d like to see, I’d really appreciate you taking a minute to fill it out:

Even if you don’t think it’s realistic, I’d still love to hear what you think would make a facility like this actually useful in Fort Worth.

Fort Worth hockey

For the DFW hockey fans.

I’m trying to gauge what people think about the idea of an ice rink in Fort Worth proper, ideally downtown or on the west side.

With the Stars potentially moving to Plano, it really feels like Fort Worth keeps getting overlooked. The new Stars center near the Speedway is cool and all, but it also makes me think there’s a completely untapped market in the 10th largest city in the country that nobody is really paying attention to. People in Weatherford, Burleson, Aledo, Azle, Benbrook, and a lot of the surrounding areas already have a hard time getting to a rink, which makes it harder for new people to even try the sport in the first place.

That’s especially frustrating for those of us who rely on the TRE to get to games. If the Stars move to Plano, that train-to-game routine basically stops being realistic for a lot of Fort Worth fans, and that means even more people are going to be left out or pushed away by the long commute. Bringing something to Fort Worth would help keep hockey accessible for the people who already support it and make it realistic for people on this side of the metroplex to stay involved.

It just seems like there’s a huge opportunity here that nobody is really taking seriously. I’ve been thinking about this for a while, originally with more of a focus on something smaller like NYTEX or a Stars Center-style facility. But now that the Stars may be moving, it makes me think the idea could be a lot bigger than that.

Fort Worth already has people taking the TRE in and out of downtown, there are new developments being discussed over on Panther Island, and Dickies Arena has already shown that Fort Worth can support major sports and entertainment draws. It makes me think the city is more than ready for a hockey or skating presence of some kind.

I know this is all just wishful thinking right now, but I wanted to see if anyone else feels the same way and where people think something like this could realistically work.
