Building a way to make pool pumps grid-aware for TX pricing — would love feedback from this sub

Hey all — I'm building PoolFlex, software that makes residential pool pumps schedule-aware to electricity prices and grid conditions, instead of running on a fixed timer that has no idea what's happening on the grid or your rate plan.

Quick context: a pump alone draws around 1.5 kW when running, and that climbs several-fold once you add a heater or chiller — real load that's currently running blind through ERCOT peak pricing and summer Conservation Alerts. The idea is to let the pump shift or ease off during expensive/high-stress hours automatically, and earn cash payments for that flexibility.

Since this sub already thinks carefully about TX electricity pricing and plan structures, I'd genuinely value blunt feedback — does this sound useful for how you already manage your electricity setup, or is there something about the Texas market I'm missing? Pool owners in particular, I'd love to hear if this is something you'd actually want.

If this sounds like something you'd participate in, I'd really appreciate a waitlist sign up at getpoolflex.com however, the feedback matters more to me than signups at this stage. Thanks!

Built a way for pool owners to get paid for participating in energy grid events — would love honest feedback

Hey all — I run a small startup in called PoolFlex (GetPoolFlex.com). Quick pitch: utilities pay money for "demand response" — basically, offloading energy-hungry equipment for a few minutes during peak grid stress, in exchange for cash payments to the owner. Big buildings and factories have done this for years. Pool pumps, heaters (and hot tubs), and chillers are perfect for this too (high draw, totally flexible timing) but almost no residential pool owner even knows the option exists.

We're building the software to let regular pool owners plug into these programs — target is you'd get paid something like $100-300+/yr per pool, paid for basically doing nothing (your pump/heater just gets briefly and rarely adjusted during grid stress events 10-20 times a year, nothing you'd notice). You can still use your pool or hot tub normally.

We're pre-launch, building toward summer 2027, and I'm trying to gauge real interest before we scale up. If this is something you'd actually want for your own pool (or future pool!), I would really appreciate a no-commitment waitlist signup at getpoolflex.com — but honestly I'd take blunt feedback here even more than signups. Does this sound like something you'd trust / use, or is there something that puts you off?

The MTA displays are Ubuntu computers

It appears this one got out of its loop due to a software update request. Why is there a spain.mp4 file?

Looking for Professionals who can find 1790’s Birth Record

I am trying to locate my Italian ancestor’s birth record. The only document I have is his death record as issued in 1863 by the Parroquia Nuestra Señor del Rosario in Naguabo, Puerto Rico. It states he was 70 at the time, implying he could have been born in 1793 or 1792. This death certificate states he is a “natural of Italy”. It does not state from where in Italy.

Despite many hours of research, I do not have any further information or documents about my ancestor, Juan Balera Giraldi. I do not know where in Italy he could be from. I haven’t found a marriage certificate. I do have his granddaughter’s baptism that only repeats his name.

Would you recommend any professionals or services that have a good chance of finding and digitally delivering my ancestor’s birth certificate? I am willing to pay a reasonable amount if the document is found and digitally delivered.

Grazie mille!
