WANTED: Gilbert are off road suggestion for EXTREME BEGINNERS
Heya everyone! So my wife & I just bought a 4x4 truck and are looking to get our "feet wet" in off-roading. We did a bit of off-roading (very basic stuff) about 25 years ago and are excited to give it another try.
Please keep these two things in mind:
Our 4x4 is a stock 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro4X. It aint a Jeep, it can't do what a Jeep can. Stock tires, stock suspension, etc. NO MODS whatsoever (at least not yet lol)
We are absolute beginners - we don't know what we are doing, we have very little confidence and a large amount of trepidation! Our last off roading experience was a quarter of a century ago - I'm sure some of you weren't even born the last time we left the pavement in a vehicle lol! Even when we did, it was extremely basic stuff and we had an experienced guide with us. So before you make a suggestion - take your experience level, and subtract like 300% from it and you have our level lol!
We are looking for some nice simple off road suggestions - more like a scenic drive through a dirt road area. Just some options to start building our confidence and maybe a little skill....maybe.
We live in Gilbert and are looking for things relatively close by.
Thanks in advance:)

My progress on driving every paved highway in AZ after 1 year
I’ve been driving my 1991 Toyota MR2 across the entire state and am almost done, obv missing some major roads like the road to vegas and to the gc skywalk, the i40 to NM etc but this is everything I've done in just over a year.

Mosquitos at Roper Lake?
I went to Roper Lake near Safford with my grandparents when I was a kid and would love to take my kids out there, but does anyone know if it has a mosquito problem these days? They eat us alive and we just don't really want to deal with that.
Superstition hiking. Accidentally woke this one up
I’ve never seen a western with this coloration before. Very pretty though.
Our resident King Snake (Arizona)
This guy lives under our concrete patio. He can stay as long as he wants!
Found this nope rope eating a small fish while hiking. Anyone know the species? Fish and snake.
Location: Greer
There’s no rattle. Guestimate the snakes 2.5 ft long maybe. Very skinny, but long enough to stretch over the trail. Snake didn’t seem to care we were there. We left it alone to do its thang. Best guess is it’s a Garter snake. 🐍
Fish: some kind of trout
I don’t know how It got the fish. There was a stream near by but that snake looked like it was struggling to eat it. Idk how it would have dragged it onto the trail. Stronger than it looks I guess.

What do people think about a state run grocery store.
A state run grocery store is a store that sells price fixed staples. Potatoes but no potato chips. The organization keeps prices low by tax and rent incentives, bulk purchasing power, limited locations, using public transportation and direct subsidizing.
We already have price fixing public - private partnerships for water and energy in SRP and APS. On order to create a state run grocery store or something like it we have to consider it to be as important as a public utility.

azfamily.comThe Milky Way from Mount Graham 5/16/2026
Went up Mount Graham to hike to the tower just above 10,000 feet next to the Ash Creek trailhead (about 4 miles) and watched a lovely sunset with the stars coming out on the way back to the campsite. It was really windy for stargazing last night, but I still had a great time! Some of the best skies in Arizona or pretty much anywhere really (no wonder the largest telescope in the world is located up there). This is a really compressed version, about 2.5 hours is shown here - 30s exposures with ZWO SeeStar S30 Pro. While I was doing this I looked at M81, M82, and some other galaxies with my telescope.
