How much water do I use?

I have two pepper plants in separate 5 gallon containers WITH DRAIN HOLES. How much water do I give them? I'm scared of giving them too much but I fear I've been giving them to little. Do I soak the soil or give them a big glass cup full? (I live in an apartment so I don't have a hose)

Does anyone sell their pickles? How do you start? (CA)

Every time I make pickles, people tell me I should sell them. I've thought about canning and making them shelf stable, but I'm not not interested in selling them someday. I make onion, peppers and garlic. I could do more. I enjoy doing this and I'm not afraid of a little extra income. I'm in California so please tell me where I can find requirements for my kitchen and how to get licensing. Thanks!

How to get a tobasco/hot sauce flavor in pickled eggs?

I love putting hot sauce on my boiled eggs. I've never had pickled eggs and wanted to know if there's a way to get a hot sauce flavor from my brine. Is it possible?

Growing tips for Hot Cayenne?

I live in area 9B (I'm pretty sure!)(Northern Central Valley CA) It gets to 116° a couple times in the summer and 30° the coldest in winter (I was originally planning on keeping the pepper plant indoors but was told it likes heat) what are some tips to keep this alive? I was given this and some Vigoro all-purpose soil. Should I use a different soil? What kind of fertilizer/plant food should I use? Do I need a trellis? I assume I do. I want to keep this alive and make my own sauce! I'm so excited! Tips are appreciated!

Suyo Cucumbers

My grandma gave me these saying they're ripe and I'd love to see how they are pickled! What do I do about the spikey skin? Has anyone pickled these?

How long are pearl onions good for?

I've had some white pearl onions I intended to pickle on my counter for almost a week. Are they still good to pickle? How long do they last?

Indoor herb garden for an idiot?

I'd like to start growing some herbs indoors mostly (and maybe peppers)! I've got some questions.

  1. what are some good starter herbs that are hard to kill? I use dill, thyme, rosemary, parsley and basil in my cooking.

  2. what plants do well in heat? I live in a hot dry area and while my plants are planned to be indoors, if they get too big and run out of space I may need them to be outside. It gets to over 110°f in my area. But I have shade.

  3. what are some good websites/blogs to look at to find care instructions for the plants? I'd like to print out what to do because I kill every plant I touch. I want to try really hard this time!

Any advice would be great! I'm going to go to a few places to find plants soon so I'd love to know what to look for!

Starter indoor herbs for an idiot?

I use a few herbs like dill, thyme, basil and rosemary often in my cooking and would like to know what it looks like to grow these indoors. I am also very bad at keeping plants alive. I have heard herbs are very hardy and hard to kill sometimes. At least that's what I've been told. I want to up my cooking game and save a little money. 1) what herbs are good for beginners? 2) where can I find easy to follow care instructions (for idiots)? What blogs, YouTubers, tiktokers ect should I look into? Where should I cross post this to get better help?

I moved two days after they sent my first check

Two days after they mailed my first check, my address changed. It's been over a month since it's been mailed out and it still hasn't arrived at my new address. I told IHSS in my county that I moved and changed my address online and filled out a form. I also did a change of address form with the post office. Do I wait a little longer and see if my mail is rerouted to me? I've called IHSS and I've been playing phone tag with them. Idk what to do. I've never moved and started a new job at the same time before.

My first pickling!

I pickled some onions, jalapeno and cucumber! I followed random recipes I found online. If anyone has any good recommendations for red onion I'd love that. It's my favorite!

New to pickling! What's your favorite spice?

What are your favorite pickling spices? (besides the mixes labeled as pickling) I want to try new things! I loved the red onion I made. If you have a good red onion recipe let me know! Thanks!
