Closer look at some pieces I made inspired by being Mexican American

Each piece is a garment I bought at either a thrift store antique store flea market or garage sale and altered it using vintage and modern patches I sourced from either Mexico or the U.S at those same thrifts garage sales or flea markets. Some patches are even handmade by some of my friends and family. For some it might be too much or too colorful but each one is a representation of how I see Mexico or how I feel being Mexican American.the first 2 patches on the back were made by a homie named Moises from yucantan Mexico. He painted the back by hand using natural dyes.

Not sure if this is real or fake someone lmk 🙏🏾

Got this at the thrift couple months back. I’m not sure if it’s real or fake. Wanted to confirm with people who might know better than Me. I feel like it’s fake cause of the tag on the collar but again not 100% sure.

I'm a Mexican American designer and my pieces were in a Mexican fashion show

I deconstruct vintage and modern garments and made 8 outfits inspired by my Mexican American culture for a fashion show my brand lastcall (ultima llamada) was a part of 2 weeks ago in Aguascalientes Mexico. Most of the patches used in these garments are vintage and some I actually sourced in Mexico myself. Mostly any of the knitted, or embroidered patches were sourced in either Guanajuato, Querétaro, Mexico City or Yucatán Mexico by me. The sagrado corazón and the nopals on the back were all fabric pieces I cut out and embroidered myself.

I made these outfits for a fashion show in Mexico

I make unique 1 one of 1 pieces out of garments I buy at garage sales flee markets thrift stores in the U.S and in Mexico and recently 2 weeks ago I was invited out to a fashion show in Aguascalientes Mexico to showcase 8 outfits I made within 2-3 weeks prior to the show. The majority of these pieces were vintage garments I took apart deconstructed and added either modern patches or vintage patches from the U.S and Mexico. Some of the patches were also handmade by either my family members and/or people that hand make patches in Mexico. These are some of my favorite pieces I have made to date.

I made a luchador mask out of scraps

To continue to showcase my culture through clothing I made a couple things this past week one of those being a luchador mask from scratch using a sunfaded green sweater I cut up and screenprinted Mexico on the sides with the Mexico emblem on top. I used vintage floral fabric for the accents. I also made a Mexican tie from red green and white scraps. The center emblem is made of canvas fabric and the same green sweater fabric used from the mask.

I'm currently doing a series where I make something everyday for 30 days for my brand. Here's day 16, and 19-22 pieces.

I'II show yall my newest piece first and then work my way up

Day 22: 1 made a huge 36inx59in Mexican flag out of scraps of shirts, shorts, pajamas, feed sacks and scraps from past projects of mine. This pice took 13ish hrs. I also embroidered the center Mexican emblem eagle, snake and cacti.

Day 16: 1 altered a vintage Harley
Davidson top I got at a garage sale with my usual suspects of oval vintage floral patches all over.

Day 19: 1 made a wallet out of vintage floral scraps. It’s my first one so it's is a lil thicker then I would have like. The idea is incredible tho.

Day 20: 1 altered a pair of vintage 2PAC jorts I bought at a flee market. I deconstructed, added flare on the sides, floral patches all over and some embroidery patches from Mexico as well

Day 21: I patched up 2 vintage ties I got at a garage sale with LA dodgers and NY
Yankees patches sewn on them.

I'm currently doing a series where I make something everyday for 30 days for my brand. This is a 36x60 inch Mexican flag I did for day 22. It took me 13 hours to finish this from 10 Am-ish this past Tuesday to 3am on Wednesday. This flag is made up of hundreds of pieces of scraps from t shirts, shorts, pants, pajamas, vintage t shirts and vintage floral scraps, + scrap fabric from past projects like vintage pennants and feedsack. The center Mexican emblem is brown and green scrap fabric I free motion embroidered with brown green and red threading around the scrap fabric to make the image of the eagle snake and cacti. It’s also an interesting piece because I’m Mexican American with being born in the U.S and parents from Mexico and in this piece I used vintage U.S made fabrics like vintage 80s and 90s t shirts and feedbacks as scraps to make a Mexican flag that is representing my Mexican culture. All that to say it’s not just an interesting project for the sake creativity and making something of scraps. It’s a small example of my life as a Mexican American.
