When you get inspired and 100% can make it cheaper.

Really wanted a Lilly of the Valley bag charm after I saw the Dior bag charm. I knew I could make it cheap from what's sitting in my craft closet, with my own spin on it. Thought perfect piece for my in process bag Ive been posting.

Old rusty metal bin to colorful new hamper

Hi again! Presenting the donut mirror's sister: the colorful hamper. A friend was going to throw away this very old, grimy and rusty metal bin, but I was seduced by its beautiful shape and decided to take it home and give it a second chance.

I cleaned it, sanded off as much rust as I could, applied anticorrosive primer and went crazy with colors and patterns. Now it happily stores my bed linens.

From what I could find, I think this was originally a coal bin. Someone is selling an almost identical one an Etsy presenting it as a Victorian piece but I have my doubts.

How to restore/upcycle dolls with missing portions of face/feet

I got these gorgeous clowns yesterday and have been trying to think of what I can do to upcycle/repair them (if its hard to see in the first image, the second and third show the missing chunks of head and foot)
I want them to still be dolls, so I'm not looking for a total transformation. I was thinking of having flowers or mushrooms of paper/fabric 'sprouting' out of a hole. I am unsure of how to affix everything to not fall out of them. Does anyone have ideas?

Old beat up desk into new desk and bookshelves

I was planning to build my son a desk for the alcove in his room until I realized that is a pretty common width for desks (48"). I found this one on marketplace for $20, and after a bit of fixing, sanding and painting, it went into his room. Added some shelves and voila!

Lace curtain hobo bag

Took inspiration from WholeConstruction307 here , to pull out a lace curtain from my closet and make a bag similar to hers. Hobo pattern off Pinterest , and lined mine with a clear vinyl lining for stability and security. Thank goodness cause I spilled French onion dip in it the first time I used it. Just swiped it clean. Added a colorful charm bracelet for flair. My lace isn’t as pretty as most. But it’s all I had :).

Jean Flag

In my head for a few years then finally stop thinking about it and started. I decided to make it to scale (close as I could get) and it's 39"x74". Around 33 pair of jeans. Now to find it's permanent hanging spot! Happy 250th America!!

Pharmacy Rx Paperwork —> Stationery Supplies

My pharmacy always staples 2-3 pages of paper onto prescription pick-ups. It is usually a trifold with the prescription, info about the drug, and a sticker sheet so the pharmacist can add the label to the bottle.

I normally just throw the paperwork into a basket for “just in case” and then shred and recycle the non-label papers once the basket is full. Seemed like such a waste, so this time I culled through to glean enough paper to make 2 tear-away scratch pads (just added school glue on the ends, clamped with binder clips, let dry over night) and am saving all the waxy backings from the sticker sheets to DIY stickers (wrote on leftover labels and cut images out from magazines, “laminated” over the sticker backing paper with clear packing tape). I still have about 30 more sticker strips set aside for future projects. I still shredded anything with sensitive information but am considering using it to make paper pulp next time.

I consider this a big win:
- reduced amount of clutter
- reduced amount of waste
- gave me products I actually use (so saved money too)
- gave me happiness during the creative process

I’m just a newbie and not very artistic in general, so I know this will look unimpressive, underwhelming, and amateur hour compared to some of the amazing works of art I see on here, but I’m quite pleased and it serves my needs nicely! 😊 Hope y’all have projects like that in your life too!

Lanyard tote bag!

I made this tote bag out of old lanyards I got from working in a dispensary. I still got plenty left, anyone have any other ideas on what to make with them?

I found this mirror discarded outside. It was just begging to be taken home and turned into a donut.

Looking for suggestions on what to do with solidified cement bags

Background: my in-laws have a house with around 8 acres of land in the high desert of southern CA. They’re disabled so my wife and I come up and take care of the property on the weekends. There’s these solidified bags of concrete that have been sitting here for years and it would be nice to move them away from the house. I know there’s relatively simple things to use them for like a pathway or whatever, but I wanted to see if anyone had some fun ideas. Much appreciated!

My First Ever Upcycle!

Okay, so I really think I am going to enjoy upcycling very much. I have been wanting to transition my closet to more one-of-a-kind pieces. Well this definitely is one! Found this old grandpa bowling shirt buried at the Goodwill today. Now I have a fresh new skirt for work, complete with the pocket!

Closer look at pieces I recently upcycled

Just finished properly organizing these multiple pieces and photographing them in their entirety. Each piece is a garment I bought at either a thrift store antique store flea market or garage sale and altered it using vintage and modern patches I sourced from either Mexico or the U.S at those same thrifts garage sales or flea markets. Some patches are even handmade by some of my friends and family. For some it might be too much or too colorful but each one is a representation of how I see Mexico or how I feel being Mexican American.

Upcycled sailor pants

These upcycled sailor pants were a huge challenge. The pattern is the Walnoot Trousers by Waffle Patterns. I’ve never made sailor style front pocket closures before, and I found the pattern confusing—subsequently the fit ended up needing adjusting with panels added down the sides. I think they ended up better for it though!

I found the fabric for free (some kind of bedding maybe?) but my kid (pictured) chose the pattern for them. Pockets and facings and bound seams used a free super soft bedsheet. They’re totally upcycled sailor pants! I’m super proud and super relieved they’re done lol
