Is there something I can use at home that’s similar to a wheelchair but more compact?

I don’t necessarily have mobility issues or pain, but I do have problems with fatigue. Frequently, I struggle to do household chores because I just can’t stay standing or walking around that long. Sometimes I can bring over a chair, but for something like cleaning, I need something that can move around. I don’t want a full wheelchair because my apartment is fairly small and I think it would be really difficult to maneuver in this space.

I’ve been thinking about getting a shop stool or something but I wanted to see if anyone here had any recommendations. I want something on wheels, preferably with adjustable height, that I can sit on and move around on (my legs work fine so it’s okay if it moves by just pushing myself around with my feet).

Is there any way I can get this panini press to make thinner sheets?

Okay I’m gonna do my best to explain the situation here. I got this panini press from the thrift store for the purpose of recycling HDPE. I’ve used it to make some flat sheets, but the press has this lip that goes all the way around the top and bottom plates and keeps the plates from touching completely. As a result, the only sheets I can make are pretty thick (figure 3) and if I want to get them thinner, I have to take them off the press and continue pressing them with an iron (figure 4) which is very time consuming. Is there any way I can modify this press so that I can use it to make thinner sheets? I thought about grinding the lip off but I’m afraid that will ruin the press.

To those upcycling clear plastic, what type of colors do you use that actually stay?

I love using plastic bottles in my art but I’ve had a lot of trouble coloring the plastic. Sharpies and alcohol ink showed up really well but then the colors faded within a year. Regular paint doesn’t seem to stick at all. Have you guys discovered anything that actually stays put long term? Either opaque color or translucent is fine, I’m just looking for color that actually lasts.

Went to a speed dating for lesbians thing and only got one match out of eight and I have mixed feelings.

I speed dated 9 women and I felt like I clicked with 8 of them. They all seemed really cool and I wanted to get to know them better. So I hit yes for 8 out of 9, and I wondered if maybe I wasn’t being picky enough, but I didn’t really care.

The way the event was set up, you were paired with people who seemed compatible based on a survey we did before the event (with basic relationship stuff like are you interested in having kids, are you religious, are you into femmes/butches/etc) and then you vote yes or no after each short date. After the event was over you got notified if you had any matches. And I got… one. Which on the one hand is cool, because hey, I got a match! I hit it off with a woman. But on the other hand I can’t stop thinking about how 7 out of 8 people who I liked and had a really nice time talking to voted no on me.

I KNOW I shouldn’t be focusing on that, I should be focusing on the one person I actually matched with. But my self confidence when it comes to dating is already so low, this is really fucking with me. I’ve had really bad luck with relationships in the past and sometimes it’s hard not to feel like there’s just something about me that’s really unattractive that I can’t figure out but that seems obvious to everybody else.

I don’t even really know why I’m writing this or what I’m looking for here, I guess I just wanted to vent. I’m trying so hard to get out of my comfort zone and gain confidence in myself and this is giving me such conflicting feelings and I don’t really know what to do.

How do I clean this pan?

I have this ceramic coated cast iron pan and no matter how hard I scrub I can’t get it clean! Normally it cleans very easily but this stuff won’t come off. I’m scared to use a more abrasive cleaner on it because I don’t want to damage the ceramic. I’m not sure what the stains are but they’re likely some sort of grease or oil, usually I use this pan for frying or sauteeing. I’ve tried soaking it in hot soapy water and that did nothing. Please help me save my favorite pan. :(

Does anyone know any good resources for images of medieval jewelry?

I’m studying historical jewelry and I’m really interested in jewelry from the 1200s-1400s but I’m having trouble finding good quality images from this era. Most of my searches end up showing me stuff from the 1500s-1600s which isn’t what I’m looking for. I’m looking for either museum archive images or of drawings/paintings/etc from that era that detail contemporary jewelry (like a jeweler’s diagram or a portrait that shows the jewelry in high detail.) Either a book or an online resource would be great.

Can I use beeswax lip balm as sawblade and drill lube?

I have this old Burt’s bees lip balm and I’m wondering if I can use it as blade lube because it’s mostly beeswax. Here’s the full ingredient list. Top ingredients are beeswax, coconut oil, sunflower oil, and peppermint oil.

I spend a lot of time in bed, so I'm trying to read as much classic literature as possible. It's helping a TON.

I have chronic fatigue and spend a lot of time in bed, too tired to do anything except lie there. Usually I'm too tired to even sit up and read a book. So a couple years ago I got really into audiobooks (I use the free library apps Hoopla and Libby, if y'all don't use these apps go check them out IMMEDIATELY, they're free through your local library) but I've mostly been reading the genres that I really enjoy (horror, mystery, and sci-fi) and a lot of books that don't require too much brain power.

Recently, I've been challenging myself to read more classics. I have a long list of classic books I've never read and I just started working my way down the list. Initially I resisted because when I'm in bed and exhausted I don't want to do anything that requires mental effort, but I made myself listen to them anyway. One of the things I've discovered is that a lot of these books have fantastic audiobook narrators (and many of them have multiple versions to choose from). Another thing I've discovered is that it's actually helping my mental health overall.

I just finished Crime and Punishment yesterday. Today I woke up and felt exhausted and haven't done much of anything all day, BUT I've made it at least a fifth of the way through Moby Dick. Yes, it requires more brain power than the fast-paced thrillers I've been reading, but using that brain power feels so good when I'm stuck in bed doing nothing.

I'm currently searching for a diagnosis and at this point I have no idea if I'll ever get better. Even if I do get better, I keep thinking about all the time I'll have wasted being sick in bed. But now I know that I'll be able to look back on these years and feel like I used my time well, because that was when I caught up on all of those classics I'd been meaning to read forever.

Obviously not everyone is going to want to read classics but there are other intellectual pursuits that we can totally do while lying in bed exhausted. Catch up on all of those arthouse movies you've been meaning to see. Finally listen to that super long nonfiction podcast. Try tackling the audiobook of some huge history or science book on a topic you're really interested in. I just feel like doing things that challenge ourselves mentally while our bodies are exhausted can go a long way to helping with mental health.

Okay, so I figured out how to meet people. How the hell do I date people?

My dating history is abysmal. Just a string of attempts that fizzled out into nothing. I have never actually managed to get into a relationship. Every time I look at dating advice it’s either “try the apps” (I have tried and I hate them so so much) or it’s suggestions on where to go to meet people.

I’ve figured out where/how to meet other queer people, as I’m lucky enough to live in a big city. My problem is that I have no idea what to do once I get past that point. I’ve always been pretty good at making friends, but I’ve never had any luck at getting beyond friendship with anyone. So when I go to these places to meet more queer people, I end up meeting cool new people… who just become platonic friends. Which is cool, I’m always glad to have friends! But I just have no idea how anyone actually turns this situation into a potentially romantic one. I feel like everyone else has this guidebook to flirting and dating that I never got a copy of. And no one’s ever made a move on me, so I don’t want to just keep waiting around for that to happen.

And it’s even harder because I have zero actual experience with sex/dating, because i know that if i ever do actually get anywhere with someone ill have to tell them that I have no experience and it could be a huge turnoff for them. I have no idea what I’m doing. I don’t even know how to ask if the woman I’m talking to is queer/single without it being super awkward. Please give me your wisdom, lesbians. I’m so lonely and so tired of being alone. 😞

How have you guys dampened sound in your workspace?

I live in an apartment building. Sometimes I have to use tools that make quite a bit of noise and I feel terrible for my neighbors. I want to find some inexpensive ways of soundproofing my workroom. I don’t mean completely soundproofing it, but just dampening sound enough that the sounds of hammering and drills don’t drive my neighbors crazy.

Can anyone recommend a durable hole punch that makes circles at least 1in wide?

I have been doing some crafts recently that involve punching out a lot of circle shapes, but the only punches I’ve been able to find that are at the sizes I need (at least 1in diameter) are these cheap plastic punches made for scrapbooks. They work fine with paper, but I’m punching out materials that are a bit thicker (aluminum cans and flexible sheets of thin plastic) and after using them for a few days, the punches keep breaking.

I have a regular hole punch, the handheld kind that’s 100% metal, and it’s very durable and can punch through these materials with no problem. But the circles it makes are way too small. So what I want to find are metal handheld hole punches like the standard sized one I have, but for larger circles. Does anyone know where I could find tools like this? I’ve tried looking it up online and reading other reddit posts but all I can find are more of the plastic punches.

What should I do with polyester clothes?

I’ve recently gotten into learning to sew and upcycling clothes I don’t wear anymore. I’ve also recently been replacing all of the synthetic fibers in my wardrobe (acrylic, polyester, etc) with natural fibers (cotton, linen, wool, silk, etc). The thing about switching to natural fiber clothing is that once you do it for a while, you kind of can’t ever go back. I can’t stand wearing polyester clothes anymore. It feels like wearing a plastic bag. They’re unbreathable and the sensation drives me crazy.

So the result of this is that now I have all of these perfectly usable polyester clothes that I don’t want to upcycle into anything wearable. But I don’t want to just toss them out either. Some of them are made of just awful shitty fabric (you know that super thin polyester crepe stuff? Ugh) but some of the fabric is a higher quality weave/knit and still usable. I just don’t want to *wear* it anymore.

Anyone have any ideas for what to do with old polyester clothes? Right now I have a lot of polyester chiffon and stretchy jersey knits or other fabrics with elastic.

My sister is looking for a delicate gold filled/plated necklace and wants to buy something handmade. Any suggestions?

She wants to treat herself and would rather buy from an independent jeweler than a big company. She wants something simple and delicate, just a cute charm on a chain. Most of the jewelers I follow make much more maximalist stuff so I’m at a loss lol. If this is something you make, or if you know someone who makes stuff like this, please drop a link!

Just finished this upcycled piece inspired by medieval medallions! How should I style it?

I made this piece with brass and some vintage jewelry (last slide shows the pieces I started out with.) This was great practice for some cold connections since I couldn’t solder the vintage parts. It’s definitely not perfect looking but I wanted it to look kind of rough and unpolished since it’s inspired by jewelry that’s several hundred years old. I tried to show what I did here in case anyone else is interested in upcycling stuff like this: I created a brass backplate for the earring with a twisted wire detail and held the earring in place with tabs, and I connected the pearls to the brooch by drilling holes in it and building a wire structure on the back. The choker was made out of 8 gauge brass wire that I hammered and filed into shape.

The most important thing I learned here was to NOT try using the polishing machine for the choker, it WILL get tangled up in the wheels and ruined. I ended up putting the choker part into the tumbler and that worked way better.

Anyway, I can’t decide how to style it. It’s a pretty big statement piece and definitely needs a special sort of outfit. What do you guys think?

What are your favorite dependable but affordable diamond drill tips?

Hey guys, I recently tried drilling some rocks with my dremel. I happened to have these random cheap diamond drill tips and I didn’t expect them to last long, but I literally went through three of them drilling a single small rock! I’m not ready to get anything super pricey yet so anyone recommend some dependable diamond drill tips with a more middle-of-the-road price point?

My Thai constellation monstera baby has a black spot!

I just bought this baby Thai constellation monstera less than a week ago and it just developed this black spot on one of its leaves. I haven’t repotted the plant or done anything to it since buying it. The seller had it growing in spagnum moss and I left it in there so far. It’s in a window with medium light. The soil is moist, I’ve only watered it once since getting it. Any ideas as to what’s causing this and how I can fix it? I’ve gotten brown spots on monsteras before but never a black spot ☹️

Looking for a high quality rolling stool.

I have chronic fatigue and one thing that gets in the way of me doing household tasks is having to stand to do them. I want to get a rolling stool, preferably one that's either barstool height or with an adjustable height, but I want to make sure I get one that's high quality and going to last. Any recommendations?
