It’s time to start thinking about Ranunculus!

Here’s the thing: ranunculus aren’t difficult… they’re just particular.

Ranunculus are best grown when the majority of their lifecycle can occur in cool, stable temps... either fall to spring in warm zones, or late winter to early summer in cooler zones. Most of the time when people fail with ranunculus, it’s because they are planting too late. These guys are tougher than most think!

I have several growing guides on my website if you’re needing help- and I’m happy to write more! If you’re still shopping, there’s corms, too.

How can I help you be successful with ranunculus?

Lileah Caramel Rose - new farm favorite!

The blooms are a gorgeous blend of dusty antique pink, terracotta, and soft coral… one of those hard-to-pin-down colors that shifts with the light and plays ridiculously well with autumn palettes.

She’s especially good for fall weddings, when those warm, muted tones suddenly make everything else in the bucket look better.

Plants are vigorous, reaching around 5 feet tall, with long, strong stems and a great head angle for cutting.

Peach and Peach adjacent - which is your fav?

Peach and peach-adjacent dahlias 🍑
I’m very glad no one is making me choose just one favorite because apparently “peach” is an entire personality category in my garden.
Shown in no particular order:
• Lee’s Tilda
• Lee’s Chloe
• Coseytown EverPeach
• KA’s Sunny Cove
• Peaches-N-Cream
• RM Peachy Pink
• Maybe RM Rose Gold, depending on how loosely we’re defining peach 😂
• And a few others whose names I absolutely knew when I took the pictures. I’m tired.
I’ve been growing/collecting a ridiculous number of dahlias, and one of my favorite things is seeing how differently these colors actually show up in the garden. Some lean blush, some coral, some cream, some almost gold…. and light and temperature can make the same variety look completely different from one bloom to the next.
What would you add to the ultimate peach dahlia lineup? I’m especially curious about varieties that stay peach in real life rather than photographing peach and blooming pink/orange.
I keep photos and notes on the varieties I grow on Fuirk Home if anyone wants to compare them- I haven’t updated all of the new-to-me varieties but that’s my September project.

Who doesn’t love a sunset?

We had a couple of mums in bloom - looks like I forgot to pinch. 😳

This handful includes Coseytown EverPeach, which has been a trooper here in the Southern heat. I will definitely be adding it to Fuirk’s post where we talk about dahlias that handle hot climates beautifully. This also includes a handful of unnamed seedlings, and maybe even Bloomquist Jean.

When Will Your Dahlias Open?

If you’ve ever stood in your garden wondering, “How much longer until this dahlia blooms?”… you’re not alone.
One of the most common questions dahlia growers ask is how to tell when a bloom will open. While every variety is a little different, the bud itself gives surprisingly reliable clues about what’s happening inside.

Here’s a link to the guide:

RM’s Raspberry Twinkle (How its handling the South)

In July, we had 15 days over 90 degree, and this is RM Raspberry Twinkle 1st bloom - what a stunner! These are growing quite happily here at Fuirk. Great stems and stem attachment, great planet size, and gorgeous blooms. These pictures look a bit more coral than reality from that warm golden hour glow.

Lee’s Chloe growing at Fuirk

Just another capture of the GORGEOUS dahlia Lee’s Chloe. I’m growing here at Fuirk (east TN) and this is one that handles the heat SO beautifully.

Lee’s Chloe steals the show!

I grow for Fuirk Home, and Lee’s Chloe has become one of my favorites. I’m pretty sure we have more tubers in the field for Lee’s Chloe than any other dahlia!

Nice stem length for cutting.

Good petal count and holds its form well.

Every bloom has a slightly different pattern, which makes it really interesting in the garden, too!

Sandia Bertha growing at Fuirk

Electric burgundy?
Hot Mulberry?
Glowing Garnet?

I really don’t know how to describe Sandia Bertha’s color, but it’s easy to see why she was an instant favorite after her 2023 release. This waterlily dahlia is so full and velvety. Perfection!

Ms Peachy - Gorgeous 1st bloom

Rule #1 of dahlias: never judge them by their first bloom.

If this is Ms. Peachy on an off day, I have a feeling she’s going to be something special.

Bred by Steve and Sandy Boley and introduced through Triple Wren in 2026, she’s a waterlily form that closes into a beautiful cup each evening. I have a feeling this one is going to steal some hearts.

I just posted to IG but it’s too got NOT to share! I will definitely have this one available in the fall at Fuirk Home.

Lee’s Sugar Rush

Lee’s Sugar Rush, 2026 Fuirk Home

I got this one as a mislabel last year, and to be honest, I didn’t love it. The bloom attachment is a little floppy.

One over-wintered and came back as a volunteer. I’m kinda glad.

Lee’s Sugar Rush makes a GREAT garden dahlia. It doesn’t grow 400 feet tall and it’s super bushy. It pumps out tons of blooms on long stems that stand high above the plant. Great for cut flowers in personal arrangements.

Do I recommend this one for FLORIST quality stem? At this point, no- not because the blooms are lacking- only because it’s a little wobbly.

Have you grown this one? Is it wobbly for you?

Andy’s Legacy is off to the faces!

Can’t believe how great these 1sr blooms look in spite of the June bugs and ridiculous heat here in East Tennessee!

I’m already missing my ranunculus (especially butterfly ranunculus). What variety are you eager to grow again?

u/FuirkHome — 3 months ago

Merle? Where does it come from? Safe space…

Merle Schnauzers….
Obviously some other breed came into the line at some point for these dogs…. But how do they get registered? Do the breeders (At some point) just lie about the parent?

Genuine question. Not trying to be divisive or fight about ethics or any of that…. I just don’t understand how it happens.
