Any advice on bad germination for cold season flowers?

Any advice on bad germination for cold season flowers?

Hello all. I sown about 40 to 50 seeds of snapdragons, delphium and campanula. Only 3 seeds have germinated so far (see the large clear tote in the back) and it's been nearly two weeks.

They are in a garage with a full spectrum growlight, in a mix of compost, potting soil, perlite and worm castings. I also made sure to sift it throughly.

I bottom water and occasionally mist on top. When do I give up? I've got some Bells of Ireland/Pixie Bells that have not germinated, and it's been about a month, so I'm considering tossing those.

Just dissapointed because this is the first year I am trying ranunculus, and I dug them up yesterday after more than a month only to discover they all rotted lol.

Any advice is appreciated, we are currently heading into winter so I am unsure whats going on. I live in an equivalent of a USDA zone 10b.

Advice tips for a zone 6b Newbie

Hello!

I am starting my first season of flower growing and am looking for advice/tips from those who have done this before. I would love to eventually lease/buy land to start a U-pick business so I am using my space this year to have fun and learn as much as I can. I’d like to sell bouquets to friends, family, and Facebook marketplace to cover my startup costs.

In addition to planting, the projects I will be working on are: adding wood chips to my pathways, setting up drip irrigation (ordered from Drip Depot), and putting up an 8’ fence.

I started seeds in the beginning of March and started planting right after Mother’s Day. I’ll be starting my next succession of seeds here very soon.

My rows from left to right are:
Row 1 - Sunflowers
Row 2 - Celosia, Ranunculus, Cosmos
Row 3 - Snapdragons, Dahlias, Strawflower
Row 4 - Calendula, Basil, Marigold
Row 5 - Chrysanthemum, Zinnias (most of the seeds I started look rough and I’ll need to direct sow.
Row 6 - ?¿ I’m thinking of direct sowing more zinnias, baby’s breath, yarrow, Shasta daisies, and Lavender. Starting some grass varieties on the side of my house for filler.

If you read this far thank you and happy growing!

Came back to all this ranunculus after vacation!! Harvested two full buckets. I couldn’t be happier. Can’t wait to hand them out to my neighbors!

Some of you probably saw my posts from last week - I picked a bouquet for my MIL and that was everything I could pick in my ranunculus patch. I came home 5 days later to this!! Everything absolutely exploded! I can’t even begin to describe how elated I am.

These guys sure are a pain in the butt; alternating between frost and shade cloth was annoying. But they are so worth it! If you’ve been debating growing these, I’d highly encourage you to do so!

My scabiosa I grew from seed isn’t producing any petals

I have two plants I grew from seed and neither of them have petals. Could something have gone wrong while they were maturing or is this part of their normal growth pattern? I started these after the last frost in zone 9b. These are the burgundy scabiosa plants.

First time growing anything, I just saw my first bloom forming on my zinnia plant. Not ashamed to say I almost cried.

Last hurrah of tulips and daffodils

It's been a pleasure. I have pulled up all the salmon tulips from my raised beds and put them into every nook and cranny I could fit as this variety will naturalize. I'll do the same with the white tulips! I'm leaving the daffodils in the raised beds, they are dying down just in time for me to plant my seedlings.

My lilacs are going nuts right now ❤️ The scent is unreal.

Where should I pinch my snapdragons?

New to growing flowers and I just found out I was supposed to pinch these snapdragons which have been growing frustratingly slow. Is there a specific spot I should pinch at?

Apple blossom snapdragon from last year ‘25

I garden in northern Baltimore I started my first snapdragons from seed last year , they were lovely. Fast forward to the end of last season I never got around to cleaning out this pot, last winter was rough for us here wicked cold and a heavy snowfall . Fast forward to this spring I was about the garden clearing old pots and I noticed this snapdragon was growing fresh , at first I thought it was just a reseed when I got to removing the old dead plant I saw that the new growth was coming from the old plant. Didn’t know these plants could do that, just thought I would share.

Can I pinch?

These are from Lowe’s. Can I pinch them or no? They’re already blooming but pretty short., maybe 4 inches or so. I’m in 5b

Humble beginnings, wish me luck

Planted my 1st garden today zone 6a . Left is dahlias. Right is ranunculus. Given the weather this week, I'm worried about my ranunculus(share cover on the way!)

Here's hoping for good growth!

To Pinch or Not Pinch

Lisianthis from last season for attention.

I have seen lots of "should I pinch this" posts recently. And thought it might be a good idea to share our practices.

What are your always pinch, sometimes pinch, never pinch lists?

Any other tips?

Best cut flower garden options for a home with cats? (Zone 8b)

I'm interested in starting a cut flower garden (probably next year at this point unless I have things that need establishing in fall) however it seems like many popular options are very poisonous to cats. I love having flowers in the house but I always have to be super picky with bouquets cause my cats love trying their luck by chewing on plants.

Are there any recommendations from y'all for cut flower garden options in my zone (8b Georgia) that would be safe to bring in to them? Thanks! :D
