What is eating my sunflowers?!
My procuts are getting demolished. I have a fence so it can't be the largest rabbits, possibly babies, i suppose, but can they eat tall plants?! I don't think it's deer because there are no tracks. Both my seedlings and my larger plants (6 weeks growing) are getting destroyed.
(I've removed a bunch of the destroyed plants, i had so many more. This is what was left when I checked today.)
I gave up direct sowing and have been transplanting larger seedlings due to animals eating them last year. But I did not anticipate the devastation done to my largest plants.
What is doing this and any tips on stopping them?! I am so crushed. My growing season is so short and the destruction is so complete, it feels pointless to replant.
(I'm zone 5b, north central massachusetts)
Cold summer so far. Early group snapdragons (Snapstar champagne, Costa Apricot), delphiniums (pacific giant, Cliveden beauty), German chamomile, Duchesse peonies, and a couple sweet peas (I planted both Ballerina blue and Charlie Angel)
The old wagon still in use! Mostly snaps, sweet peas, and zinnia with a few wildflowers in 6a.
Here is what I have harvested this morning from my cut flower garden:
Zinnias: Persian carpet, double raspberry ripple, queeny lime orange, benary giant salmon
Cosmo: Rubenza, snowpuff
Snapdragons
Lavender
Veronica candles
Every year my garden gets bigger!!
This is the second sprout I’ve randomly found in a seedling tray in my indoor grow light setup. This one was next to a gomphrena seedling, the other was celosia. Any idea what it is or where it came from?
ive always been more of a veggie grower but i wanted to try flowers this year and do little whimsical and rustic arrangements. i have a pretty small patch but look forward to expanding for next year! i really like what i have done so far and im so excited to learn more!! 😬😬
Purple Rooster bee balm, pink perennial sweet pea, two mystery pink/purple astilbe, Berry Smoothie heuchera (flowers and foliage), Autumn Joy sedum and ghost fern from the backyard
I am in zone 5 so it’s been a long wait but finally seeing enough flowers to make a proper bouquet! Hooray!
All grown from Johnny’s seeds except basil from botanical interests
Zinnias - ballerina and Oklahoma salmon
Statice - forever happy
Snapdragons - Potomac lavender and early sunrise
Cosmos - double click snowpuff
Basil - lemon
Some of my ballerina zinnias have been this darker pink instead of pale pink, but I’m not mad at it
July 4 is my mother in law's birthday, and I made this for her. This is my very first flowers that I grew and my very first arrangement. I'm so happy with how they turned out and I hope my MIL likes it.
Happy 4th, everyone!
First time growing any flowers ever, from seed. Cosmos & bachelor buttons are thriving! Still waiting on my warm season snaps, zinnias and dahlias .
Last week my first ranunculus bloomed and I was highly disappointed. I decided I wouldn’t bother with them again. Barely any petals and a pale yellow colour I didn’t care for. Then we came back from. Camping trip to find tons of beautiful blooms and I can say that ranunculus are worth it.
To my surprise my bupleurum self seeded last fall and some came up this year in Ontario, Canada.
Just need my cosmos, zinnias to and sunflowers to hurry up and flower and I think I’ll out do myself again for my next attempt!
First bouquet from my garden, first year doing this. The yarrow was bought as plants, other from seed. My yarrow seed starting was… not successful, lol. But I don’t mind spending more on this beautiful plant.
