His first time at the beach.

This is his first time at the beach. I think he was also trying to tell me that he’s a gold digger. If he is that’s okay. We were at Newport Beach for the fourth and it was crazy but we got out of there okay. I got hit with one fire work but it wasn’t bad. Will never go to Newport Beach again for the fourth.

Bruno is Back!

Soooo the summer is here, and heat wave has been HORRIBLE. Our baby boy is constantly huffing and puffing, but he still seems happy. Hope you like his summer cut 🥴 we tried to use a grooming kit at home.

Bruno says hi to his sisters as well!

Thinking of a second

I purchased my first mini 2 years ago. He is absolutely the best dog I have had. He is very unique In personality.

My other dog who was 14 passed last year and I am finally ready to add a other. I am seriously considering another mini.

Can any of you who have owned multiple give me some pros and cons.

I am trying for the same breeder so they would be closer relatives. Not sure that it would matter at all.

They will be the same sex because I have never owned opposite sec and would just assume it would be easier.

Meet Róisín ☘️💚

First night home with our 3-month-old Miniature Schnauzer, Róisín. She seems very confident but quite clingy (which I know is normal).

We’ve her set up in the kitchen tonight with brown noise playing and she seems to be settling well.

Would love any advice from experienced Mini Schnauzer owners, especially around the first week, separation training, barking, grooming, and anything you wish you knew early on.

Just shaved our 8 month pup fully for the first time. Now my wife is worried he is to skinny.

He grew to this size by 6 month and then stopped really growing. He is roughly 30cm long and tall. I told my wife he is fine he still needs to bulk up as he grows to one year.

But i am abit concerned that he hasn't grown at all in 2 months.

Dealing with very sore paws from Sand Spurs.

My wife and I just got back with the two miniature schnauzers from Pensacola, FL for a short vacation. On one of our walks on a recommended dog-frienfly trail near the beach, both dogs got covered in sand spurs. Our male is larger and much heavier. He had them embedded between his paw pads on all four paws. We removed all the spurs, but the next day, he really started to avoid putting weight on his paws and avoiding hard surfaces. We are going to take him to the vet on Monday if he isn't better, but we are just trying to make him as comfy as we can. Here are some things we've done and other info.

  1. We soaked them in warm water and baking soda. Then I cleaned them with Nizoral shampoo.

  2. We soaked them in warm water and epsom salt.

  3. We treated them with neosporin.

  4. We treated them with Paw Soother.

  5. We treated them with coconut oil.

  6. I gave him the recommended dosage of benadryl twice. It didn't seem to help at all, so I discontinued that.

  7. I had some liquid prednisone doses leftover from a bout with kennel cough. That helped. I will probably keep giving him that at the recommended schedule.

  8. I had some amoxicillin left over. I have been giving him a recommended dose for his size. I will keep doing that until we talk to the vet.

  9. I don't feel or see any remaining shards from the spurs, but it's possible pieces could still be in his paws.

  10. He is avoiding hardwood and tile floors. He much prefers carpet. He won't walk or stand for more than 10 or 15 seconds.

  11. He is not in constant pain/distress like he was at first (not sleeping), especially after prednisone. Today is the third day. His paws (especially the rear paws) just seem to hurt under his weight.

  12. He is eating good. We put down a soft pad in front of his food and water bowls. Otherwise he would only eat if hand fed.

  13. It doesn't hurt to rub his back, move his legs all around, or lift him. My wife is an RN. We are almost sure it's not a back injury.

  14. He is eating and pottying normally. It's just visibly uncomfortable on the paw on the ground when he clocks his other leg to pee or for both rear paws when he squats to poop. Our yard is dry and rocky in the hottest summer months.

  15. His spirits are still good. His personality hasn't changed.

Proud Mama alert

t’s the end of our 3rd week with diabetes and I want to shout out to my baby(9.5 yo) girl who has put up with daily pokes, prods, injections, inspections, loss of the best treats, transitioning to green beans and red cabbage as snacks; has let me give her a hair cut, paws and pads trim, and a manicure(nails cut). All while dealing with her neurotic fur Mama.
I’m so proud of her. She’s the bestest girl and I just wanted to share how much I love her here.. 🤭🫶🏻

I LOVE YOU GRACIE GIRL. 🩷🩷🩷

Chronic Calcium Oxalate Bladder Stones - I don't know what to do anymore.

Arthur is a 9-year-old Miniature Schnauzer/Miniature Australian Shepherd and he is a calcium oxalate forming machine. We noticed Arthur was peeing blood and took him to the vet last November. They took an x-ray and found stones, so he got his first cystotomy. They took out 3 calcium oxalate stones. We got him on Hill's Science Diet ud. 6 months later, in June, he's peeing blood again, so we took him in and an ultrasound confirmed it was stones again. He got another cystotomy and they removed 4 more calcium oxalate stones. After his second surgery on top of his prescription food, he is now taking 12.5mg of hydrochlorothiazide twice a day and 300mg of potassium citrate powder twice a day, plus lots of water in his food. He is three weeks post op and straining to pee again. I brought in a urine sample to our vet and they said it's showing crystals and recommended we go to internal medicine.

I am broke. I got pet insurance (Lemonade), but not before his first stone was diagnosed, so it's a pre-existing condition and therefore not covered. Both surgeries cost a little over $3k on top of the diagnostics/appointments.

I don't know what to do. He just turned 9 in April and he's my whole world. I am paycheck to paycheck, I can't afford thousands more dollars, nor do I want to keep putting him under for surgery over and over again. I'm not even sure how many surgeries or how frequently vets are willing to do them?

I'm just feeling lost. Has anyone else dealt with this? Have you found anything that helps control calcium oxalate stones from forming? Any advice on how I can afford this since it's a pre-existing condition?

Hot spot?

My mini has never had a full blown hot spot so I can't tell if this is one. He has skin allergies and gets medicated baths weekly. The "hot spots" he gets are usually caught early when they're just pink/red skin. This popped up overnight while I was gone. Is it a hot spot?
