HELP: What are these and can I remove them?
TLDR: Trying to paint my kitchen ceiling (solid concrete) and am wondering what these eye sores are, if I can remove them, and how if so.
Full context: I'm trying to paint my kitchen ceiling and am wondering what these metal things are, if I can remove them, and how if so. I assume they were meant to hold up the previous cabinetry, but these current cabinets were put in before me so I can't confirm. My home was built in the 60s/70s and all walls and ceilings are solid concrete, which makes even small projects difficult. The ceiling around these things is especially weird - looks like the concrete was drilled to make room for them, then the gaps were poorly filled with plaster and a foamy rubbery material. I can't tell how deep they go or if they were built into the structure of the place and won't be possible to get out. I tried a basic toothed wrench to see if they'll budge at all, and no luck. Looking for any advice and any insight from professionals. Thanks!
