Using OS from USB-NVME Enclosure
Hello Guys,
I have an X570 board with a Ryzen 5900X and want to use two OS. Since i don't want the OSses mess around with each other (yeah windows, i am looking at you) i want to be able to physically remove one drive when using the OS on the other drive.
So far so good.
Since the designer of my Mainboard wanted users to have pain in the ass adding/removing nvmes (you have to remove the GPUs, PCI-Cards, remove dozen of screws to remove some shielding, then remove two screws of the SSDs cooling metal thing), using the Mainboards slots for the 2nd NVME is not an option.
I want a solution, where i can remove one NVME without disassambling my whole pc. So i bought an Nvme Enclosure with USB 3.2 - i don't need the NVMEs full speeds currently so it should be sufficient.
The problem is: This USB enclosures seem to be really really instable. I get crashes very often and the System freezes. I Bought two enclosures from different Brands (Ugreen, SSK) and both have the same problem. There is no freeze when the SSD is on the Motherboard. I also tested the Enclosures with another PC (X470, Ryzen 2700) and i have the same problem.
The problem is not only when booting from the NVME-Enclosure: Even if i use the NVME as an USB-Stick, it freezes, when i copy large files (~20GB) so it's unusable.
Is this a general thing with NVME Enclosures or are there problems on the AMD Platform with USB? What am i doing wrong with those enclosures?
